Copying an audio CD

So what I gather is that mp3 is not a proper Audio CD format. Excuse my ignorance. This would constitute a data CD.

What baffled me was that the total duration is over 2hours, but CDs have an 80 min limit.

I'm wanting to copy it like for like

CD audio is a raw data stream, usually 2 channels of LPCM audio, signed 16-bit at 44100 Hz.

On a 700 MB disc (that's mega byte, not mibi byte, so 700 000 000 bytes) thats about 80 minutes worth of audio.

What your CD is holding are mp3 files (MPEG-1 Layer 3). mp3 files are a compressed type of audio file, made popular in the earlier days of the internet.

If you want to just do a raw 1 to 1 copy, insert the CD into your computer and copy-paste the mp3 files to a folder on your desktop, then insert a blank CD and copy paste them in, then right click in the window and select burn and finalize

You're trying to convert a CD full of mp3's to an audio cd.

A CD is say 600mb. At around 5mb per mp3 that's 120 songs or whatever. When you create an audio cd it will re-encode those files and upscale their size and only fit +- 15 tracks onto the cd. A proper audio cd (that plays on any device) can't have mp3 files on it...they need to be converted.

If you just copy the cd contents to another cd it will fit.
If you copy them with the option of creating an audio cd it won't fit.

Edit: didn't see your post.

did you win with the steps I outlined above? If you're desperate you can pm me and we can organise an anydesk
Thanks, appreciate.
Was just about to reply and then the CD drive opened after burning.

It's exactly what I did initially, except that initially selected Audio CD instead of data CD.

All 22 mp3 files copied to the new CD, except the the last 3 seem corrupted. Partial win

So a friend asked if I could make a copy of his CD. It's a proper audio CD. Plays in the car CD player.

The total file duration after ripping is 2h51min.

In order to burn it as another audio CD, I'll need 3 CDs.

How is it that a single CD will need to be copied onto 3 CDs?

Is there a way to make it fit onto a single audio CD?

Audio CD's is raw LCPM data at 16 bit 44.1Khz. .cda is a container for a .wav file so on a 700mb CD you can fit up to 80 minutes of music.

mp3's are compressed audio data hence why you can fit more depending on your bitrate on a CD.

This reminds me. " Winamp, Really whips the LAMA's ass" good old days when MP3's just appeared. and could not fit onto a Stiffy. HDD or Coax network Copy. Windows could not copy MP3's over network. The Timer broke.
