Core i5 3570 or Core i7 3770 for software development

I was going to get a SSD but then I decided against for the following reasons, but not sure if I am wrong.
* I con't care for boot up time
* When my IDE is open, all that exists in memory so it's irrelevnat where the installation files sit.
* My development data probably won't sit on the SSD because there is too much data (Can only afford a 125GB).

So I was thinking maybe there will not be much of a different in performance.

If you are going to compile >125 GB of sources :erm: then definitely i7:

And SSD will make difference in performance and productivity... You can make coffee/lunch whilst your code is compiling, but whilst waiting for things to load, you will probably have to sit and wait... whilst your mind starts wondering.

Boot times and compile times for my SSD are just a bonus... It's all the other advantages they provide that I can't live without anymore.

Spend the money and go i7 if you want the better processor.
SSD is always going to make a PC scream so first prize would be i7 with SSD.

Remember Moore's law though so you can expect it to consume all you have available for it.

Tim

Yup.. my notebook is a Gen2 i7 with an OCZ 120GB Vertex 3 and desktop is a Gen3 i7 with an OCZ 256GB Vertex 4.

Once you go SSD you won't give back.

Office machine is a Gen1 i7 with NO SSD. Difference is huge.
