Hi Guys,

Posted a couple weeks ago about getting a Corsa OPC - Well, finally got it! Was a great deal and car is in immac condition.

Ok so i hear a lot of people talking about remapping the ECU... Can someone tell me the advantages/disadvantages of getting this done? And also where can I get it done in Durban and what should i expect to pay?

Is remapping adding a chip or just changing stuff on the current ECU?

Thanks in advance!

disadvantage, having your pistons melt.

a remap is always a good idea.
they just fiddle with ur existing mapping. no new chips or soldering etc.. just plug in, put new map changes, and u done!

stage 1 will be a safe get.
stage 2 gets a bit stronger and may ask for actual physical changes to the car ( down pipe, intercooler upgrade etc..)
and stage 3 is MAD!!

so yea enjoy the car for a bit...
get used to the power.
then do stage 1 and feel the difference!
plus stage 1 is alot safer, wont break ur turbo or turbo manifold etc..and you will not break pistons or other engine components as long as you use a reputable tuner.
in dbn, not sure who will be available..
but here in jhb, you can go to Precision Auto Tuning, Precision Race Technologies etc.
they proven tried and tested chaps. have fun!

The way I understand it is that if you keep within the manufacturer parameters, it should be great. As mentioned above, a simple ECU remapping should be within these and you'll be safe.

I've taken my car from 169kw to 185kw and 320nm to 400nm, which is only a 10% change in power and 25% in the torque - both what I feel to be within parameters. I've added an intercooler too though, as it makes me feel better knowing cooler air is flowing into the engine.

Oh - a big disadvantage is the lack of warranty ....

Excellent buy you made! Hope you enjoy the OPC. All I can say about ECU remapping is that GMSA is going to have a field day with you when you run into warranty issues ;)

Thanks, this is helpful! Will check around who does it in DBN or maybe do a road trip to JHB :-)

Yeah the car is out of the manufacturer's warranty... I got the MotoRite warranty included when i purchased the car. Will remapping affect this in any way?

Oh, one more thing.. I'd love to put an intercooler in the car... I've heard that overheating could be a potential issue. Is the SAC intercoolers any good, or are there better options on the market?

Dude, trust me... Your not going to want to do mapping etc without changing the pistions and rods on the Corsa OPC.
If you fit an intercooler and you take that puppy in for a serrvice they will laugh at you if there is ANY warranty claim at all.

When it comes to these sort of things espicially on the Corsa OPC the dealers are very very aware of what goes on. Trust me, they have had enough issues with these motors.

I wouldnt do it if I were you, wait until its out of service plan and warranty.

I agree, this is best left until the car is out of warranty.

Had a warranty claim last week on my Corsa, even though it beyond my control, I had to do a bit of explaining to GMSA and only then did they do the work under warranty!

Most new ECUs in cars are designed to be increasingly tamper proof. Companies such as Dastek in Pretoria therefore are in business to work around this problem.

The OPC will definitely need a piston change, rod change and an improvement to the turbo if anything like this is undertaken. The turbocharger on the OPC is NOT covered under warranty either and they have the propensity to fail at 40,000km if the car is driven hard all the time.

Don't mean to sound like a buzz-kill, but let me get this straight.

You just bought a new car, and already want to have it remapped? Whats the primary motivation behind it? Are you bored with it already?

Hhehehehehe, congrats with the buy mate. Hope you gonna njoy your car... :) If you want to do a remap I think it's best if you talk to the guys on the OPC forums. They might know more than us about that (Or more than me atleast) :)

are you sure about this?
i would never buy this car if this is the case
but then i would never buy an opel....

While I would also refrain from doing any mods like this on my cars I can say that the OPC is a way better deal than its class rivals. Opel as a brand is very under rated in South Africa, luckily that means it is a fairly unique brand to support so I'm glad not every Tom, Dick and Adolf owns one.

I have heard of turbo failures on many other cars too, even before 40,000km. Personally I have naturally aspirated Opel with more than 180,000km on the clock and it gets driven hard regularly.

I agree.. I like the brand, been driving them for years... ever since I got a Corsa B for my wife many years ago I've been hooked...
Just a pity that on an open forum like this you'll get people dissing you for being loyal to this brand, as has happened to me when I joined here.

As for the turbo, that is why the turbo I am told is not covered under warranty. The OPC is a great car, and I nearly bought one in January but I could not run the risk of expensive repairs i.e the turbo, so I opted for a brand new Corsa D instead, and there's enough space to put the kid in and all his paraphernalia such as his stroller, etc..

I was very tempted to upgrade to a Corsa Turbo but in the end it was money that made me stick with the essentia. As you correctly said, they are excellent cars, which is why they beat all VW offerings in the latest JD Power Quality survey.

Don't let the VAG fanbois/trolls/sheeple get you down, they are barrels of fun if you troll them every now and then
