Cosatu calls for strike over e-toll

Get an old junker and have an "accident" with a gantry.

Seriously, whats marching and behning stuff going to accomplish? Businesses will lose money, some poor working fools will go without food for a week or 2 and the guavamint will strike a deal with the union(mafia) leaders to cut them in on the toll-gate action.

They will then declare the strike a glorious victory, we'll all get shafted by the toll fees and nothing much will change apart from stuff getting even more expensive.

Rather get them to stop. voting. for. the. ****ing. ANC.

Wow so now people want to do something and people still complain. Do something about it or shut up

Why are COSATU (and everyone actually) only waking up to this now? How many years has this been in development now?

Oh please, COSATU's "consultation with the people" will basically be them going to guavamint, getting them to knock 5% of SANRAL's fees and getting a lekker "kickback" for COSATU.

This whole issue is very strange as Zuma is viewed as, well, somewhat communist, or at least pandering to the unions that are communist. This is why we've seen some noise about cellphone rates/interconnects and such. Then they go and try rape all the middle class road users. They probably figured that it would mostly affect the middle class and not their voters.

This guy gets it. ^ It won't accomplish jack **** but make some union gangsters richer and drive inflation up.

Ja, well that's not gonna help much if the gantries are not actually working yet. Which they won't be on the date of this mass action.

:) Dude. I think you miss the point of protest action.

I think that if the middle class don't throw a fit, they will end up footing the whole bill and cosatu will get the free ride they want.

Eh. The middle class can move to joburg. Or find another job in Pretoria. I quite agree that the way these toll roads have been set up is daylight robbery, but on the other hand, some people seem to be shouting and yelling for the privilege of spending 3 hours a day alone in their car moving at 34kph on average and paying up to R50 a day just for petrol.

I work in Centurion and even getting there from PTA is bad enough...

I live 3k's from work, it's awesome. I just can't stand traffic. These tolls will not affect me much.

Uhm Mr. Smart ass I live and work in JHB but unfortunately I need to drive to clients all day. Do you think companies are going to be footing this bill?

How would you rather the money to improve the infrastructure is procured? Increase fuel taxes?

Yes sorry instead of our minsters driving in BMW's they will now use helicopters.

Agreed, but nearly all toll roads country wide are always in good nick.

Having said that, 66c per km will allow politicians to buy Chinooks plated in gold as a basic form of transport - never mind the "average" jet-powered helicopter.
