Cosmetic Dentistry

veneers are between 1-2K per tooth and are quite cheep. if you go with crowns/implants it will become expensive. I had a look at a quote for 6 teeth (front) for crowns and it would cost 38K - roughly 4K per crown. Aside from the high price (thats like a few terabytes of downloads or a really nice holiday) the irreversible process (the dentist will have to remove tooth-structure to fit the crowns) put me off. Wikipedia explains the procedure very well - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_(dentistry).

I use a dentist in Bryanston who is more expensive than others but generally does exceptional work.

I'm getting two crowns done soon, but the only reason is that both teeth (molars) have been root canalled, and apparently root canalled teeth are much more likely to crack without a crown.

EDIT: Oh, thread necro.

I have 2 root cannelled teeth, one is crowned and the other not (I wasn't informed about it being needed etc...it was just done with no further advice about crowns). the one that has a crown is fine although I want it replaced now with an implant as the root is causing issues with infections every now and then and the other one without the crown (a molar) broke twice already so need to get him crowned.

Implants are very expensive though :p

I went to Medicross the berg for fillings, they fell out twice so I went to another dentist - will never go back there again. Also they used an old file for billing instead of the new one so they tried to put the costs across on a medical aid I wasn't with for about 4-5 years. 2 years later i get a call from a debt collector telling me I owe medicross money. I had to go and settle the bill for a few thousand out of my own pocket because of their incompetence. Useless dentists, useless admin and billing staff.

They used to be so good but now they ***! They'll never see me again!

I used to go to a dentist at a mediclinic - also never again.

As the saying goes, bargains can be expensive.

It is your responsibility to ensure the claim was actually lodged with your medical aid, and you have 120 days to do it. You can't blame them because you did not follow up, or read your claims statement. School fees.
