So my iPhone 4 dropped onto a carpet from table height and shattered the screen. Where and how much would it cost to fix.

omw. you definitely need a bouncy phone. retina's are damn costly.

i found out just out of curiosity about a month ago , the cost to replace. Was given a quote of R3500 . this is in JHB

No Insurance? Buy a new one instead, cost will be more than R3 000. Or better still take it to Vodascum and they will charge you R3500 and give you a refurb, not sure though - can someone confirm?

R3500!!!!! To replace a phone's screen?

Not a chance in hell will I ever spend that on a phone. Screw that I will rather save and get another phone

Check out http://www.xpressfix.co.za/

I used them (think the guys name was Mark or something) way back to have my iphone3G screen repaired. Cost me about R1200 if I recall correctly.

Basicly a guy doing the repairs from his home as a hobby, but he did a great job and got my phone back the next day.

Thanks MadMan!!

I will save up for that, R2600 I can stomach

Alternatively you can buy a broken iPhone off eBay like what I've done to fix my brothers phone. Total cost was R600 bucks.

Thanks for the link, but I am worried that it is a scam

The guy gives an address, email address, tel number, allows direct pickup, and will even install for a bit extra.
Could be a scam..but as far as the warning signs go..this guy passes most of the obvious tests. I would get someone in CT to collect from him. I think this one is ok..and possibly a great deal.

The missus dropped her phone today and cracked the screen but properly. I'll give this guy a go and let you guys know how it works out. I spoke with him on the phone today and also managed to track down the guest house he runs in Wilderness and it all seems legitimate. R900 is WAY better than the next best R2600 I was quoted for the same thing...

I dropped my Samsung Jet the other day as well, so I sourced a new screen off Ebay for R 100 including tools and just did it myself. Working like a charm!

iphone screen repair

I used this video to replace an iPhone 4 screen last week:
Part1 explains how to take the phone apart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOT7PULAU1c
and part2 shows how to put it all back again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8IyPbEGg_M

It took me 1h30 to do... but I was super duper careful not to break anything else.
You'll need a small star and a flat head screwdriver and a plastic spudger.
Replacement screen for the iPhone4 goes for R990 at iCracked's SA agent
or on Gumtree http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/c...CD-screen-replacement-unit-W0QQAdIdZ303161799
