Hi

SImply put, reached cap a few days ago, but international and local we both quite useable, and the slowdown was not a train smash.
Today however, Local bandwidth while useable, is really slow and international is 100 % un useable, to the point where I cannot open one site, even opening google does not happen ...

What gives !!?

Telkom most certainly does not give, all they do is take, take, take

You have just been En-CAPULATED(hey this could be a word someday) and it isnt beautifull. Your local problems may be a result of a screwed up slow performing dns server(one that is about to fall over) or just problems on local loop.

there was problems with SAIX DNS and ADSL in the week, maybe you should verify if that is causing ur problem

Spoke to telkom "tech" , his suggestion wait until later tonight when no one is on and try then. I evidentaly have no life and will happily wait till 2am for there to be enough bandwidth for me to open a google page ....

Is it the same with all the other ISP's , since they are all herded through telkom aswell ?

All I want is enough speed to open web pages, I am not demanding grade a service, astounding as it may seem, I merely want some service, no matter how shaky ...

Oh please please please let a new telecom be allowed to come into being ... please please please ....

gremlin I just sorted out some guys by pointing them to these dns servers:

primarydns: 196.25.255.34
secondarydns: 196.25.255.3

are you in or near Parkview?

Same prob for me, this about the only site I can visit, where are you?

JHB, Lombardy East

While in the UK, I had none of these problems.
512K-down 256k-up, modem thrown in for free, statis IP, no cap or limit and I paid 30 pounds ... ( extra for static IP ) ... left UK cam here, I really miss my DSL line ( although technically I do have a DSL line, its more like a telkom wishing well, throw money in hole, wish for bandwidth )

Telkom server assigning same IP address

Ok so Mweb tell me they can see that the Telkom server keeps assigning me the same IP address (every time I reboot the router) Apparently it aint supposed to do this.

Now I have to call telkom *sigh* now where did I put their frikkin number??

Maybe you're having the same issue, did you check with your ISP?

i had the same problem when i used to reach my cap on my 3GB account. so i called the ISP up and basically this is how it works. when you get capped telkom switches you onto a slower pipe. if you get capped towards the beginning or middle of the month, international may be slightly useable because not many people have been capped yet.
but towards the end of the month, as more and more people become capped and switched onto the slower pipe, everybody has to share whatever bandwidth there is there - which is why international is unusable towards the end of the month.

Would this affect performance ?
I have had the same IP for 5 days ...

help??

Ok this is driving me mad, can't find the telkom adsl support number, anyone know it off hand?

you're capped

Hey Gremlin

Sorry I forgot that you are capped. Once you've been capped apparently you keep getting the same IP address (if you can believe anything the guy at my ISP call centre said)

Are you here from the UK for the first time or are you a returnee?

Ha ha ha

Thanks for the number guys,

as I expected I called Telkom and they said no no no it's your ISP that supplies you with the IP address not us
