Could I be any slower ?

Returnee, the weather and mindset got me down ... Like sunny SA, its great to wake up and feel alive, because you still are alive.

BUt yesterday I was on international sites with no problem, If I had known today would be this bad, I would have gotten all the things I needed to do done then ...
 
as I expected I called Telkom and they said no no no it's your ISP that supplies you with the IP address not us

Typical, one hand not knowing what the other is doing. Telkom assigns IP addresses, finished. If not, the ISPs would be offerning static ips without resorting to "work arounds".

However, some ISPs (IS for example) have a pool of their own ip addresses that Telkom assigns to IS clients. Mine for example is 196.x.x.x when on an IS account.

Telkom have confirmed that my IP address is capped (even though I'm not)are now telling me that it's Mweb that assigns the IP address not them

back to mweb, maybe I should switch to web-africa.

This is useless, now I'm told that the IP address is fine (by Mweb) and that yes they do lease IP addresses from Telkom so it does come from them (Mweb) however nobody seems to know what to do.

Basically I'm capped (and I've only used 1/2 gb)

And I'm expected to pay for this service

Steve : if ur useing MWEB as ur ISP then they are useing SAIX accs, so u will get an ip from SAIX, ie TELKOM. Give MWEB a call, ask for ADSL and tell them that you are having this problem and they must help, they will im sure
 
Steve ask them to check your acc settings and to re auth the acc, they might bitch, ask for a manager if they do, once the manager comes online and ask for his name, ask for "Rupert" or "Leon" they will be able to help, then tell them u want the acc re authed. atleast after this then u wont will know that its not a software problem and more than likely a hardware problem

I've spoken to DSL support (3x) Customer care once, and a pleasant enough chap in the security/abuse section (I think I got put through to him because the tone of my voice may have become abusive by that stage). At any rate I await a call back.
 
finally something happened

After calling them again I was told that my query had been logged and that I should wait for someone to call me back.

At about 8pm after rebooting router for the umteenth time today I finally got sorted - although no call from Mweb ever became apparent

Your isp has to sort those thngs out. 0800 375 375 is for line support, ie no dsl link/synch. Shame those guys probably get flooded with slow access calls which are jsut people getting capped. Anyways slow access = capping, shapping or line problem. Always check that its not the 1st two. You getting assigned a capped ip though you were not capped is something you need to take up with mweb since they are responsible for that. Its like email, they do it or atleast handle the service and Telkom the line.
