Hi,

I need some advice on a cooler for a i5 4690k. The de facto online recommendation sees to be the coolermaster hyper 212 and its variants, but it seems like it's no longer being made... none of the usual online stores have stock.

Any other air coolers that I can look at? There are some closed water cooling systems, but they're pretty pricey...

Cheers!

I'll be toying with some mild OC and if I can keep the temp and noise down by upgrading the cooler for a few Rand I'll give it a go.

I would personally go for the Noctua NH-D14, or the D15 if you can find a D15.
They are HUGE but do a dam good job, keeps up with my closed loop water cooling kit, and a dam side quieter.

Price: R1000

+1 for Noctua, the best air coolers money can buy and whisper quiet.

Noctua would be the best but pretty rich.

Zalman CNPS10X Optima is a cheaper alternative running a few C hotter but also noisier. at ~R400

It will not interfere if you have ram that it 44mm or lower in height.

Yes but if you want to be sure get the following. http://www.evetech.co.za/PC-Hardware/noctua-nh-u14s-cpu-cooler-880.aspx

I had a thermalright silver arrow. Although amazing cooler I had it interfere with my RAM and my sound card. But if you never going to run more than one graphics card and ram with high heatsinks then go nh-d14. Maybe phone them and find out if they will go with NH-D15 cause that one will work for sure. Hope this helps out

Wat?

You can run as many graphics cards as you want with a nh-d14.
