Hey guys

I'm looking to get a CPU cooler. My cores run at 45-50 degrees.
Any advice as to what is good quality for money and what will
keep my cores cool?

CPU: E8400 @3GHz

Thanks, does anyone have one of these? By how many degrees to they drop your CPU temps?

Why do you want to cool it down? Are you overclocking? 40% doesn't seem too hot to me?

is 50 degrees a good temp? Im using the program CoreTemp..
Its that temperature in Idle.
Is it worth getting a cooler?

if that is 45-50 degrees idle then you have a problem, however if its load temps then its cool, scuse the pun.

what are the ambient/room temps?

what case do u have? any casefans?

1. What CPU do you have?
2. Dont bother with Idle temps, look at load temps. If they are dangerous consider upgrading.
2. Get the correct hardware monitoring app for your CPU. If you have a C2D coretemp should do the job?
3. What is your budget?
4. Do you plan on overclocking?

Yeah its in idle :(
my room is fairly hot, already from midday to now it has cooled down 8 degrees. I have the Gigabyte Poseidon Original Case. 2 Casefans.

I really want value for money so any advice?

E8400 @3.00GHz
Yes I have C2D CoreTemp
Budget- Anything around R600-R700
No I do not plan on overclocking.
What can I run to check my load temp?
As I said i would mainly like a very good cooler for a very good price :)

You can try downloading 'prime95' run it for a couple of hours, if your PC survives that it should be fine.
Or you can try 'intel burn test', its a 5min test. (if you are in a hurry)

Firstly I would try reseating my heatsink (if I were you) and apply some good quality thermal paste (arctic silver 5, or OCZ freeze)
That should make a difference, and it wont cost an arm and a leg.

If it doesnt work, get yourself a aftermarket cooler. Dont bother getting a R700 cooler, seeing that you are not going to overclock. You can get a decent Zalman cooler for R500

edit: by survive I dont mean it will die, it will probably restart.

I can get you thermalpaste ... you apply it by spreading some directly onto the processor so that there is a thin layer ... you don't want too much so that it is pouring over the sides.

In terms of a cooler, I have a special on my Freezer 7 Pro coolers at the moment, normally R349 and now R249 ... they are decent ... not as strong at an Ultra 120, but less then half the price.
