To all the guys saying that I should rather go intel...
- Phenom II 965 be + M4A785TD-V EVO AMD 785G Motherboard for R2860
An equivalent intel setup in the same ball park?
Lol I am but if he is set on AMD then thats my recommendation![]()
If OP wants to consider Intel
I bought some parts from vision technologies:
i5 750
Asus P7H55-M (USB3+SATA3)
1GB 5770
500Gig HDD
R5000 on the dot..
Which is quite respectable for a walk in store
And when people say AMD is better for gaming.. You smoking some good stuff. In the past it was true.. At the moment Intel owns AMD in games! Well in every bench mark I've seen atleast 90% of the time Intel wins. This is in terms of fps and comparing the i5 750, i7 860, i7 930, PII x4 965, PII x6 1055T and PII x6 1090T.
At the moment the only reason to go AMD is if you want a cheap 6 core.. or cheaper crossfire/sli x16 x16 setup.
And as for the athone x4 rather go i3 530 if your intention is to game. It to beats that AMD chip hands down in gaming. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2901/12
Whats that corny saying...What are you smoking? AMD vs Intel in games is even. You will get a few % more with an Intel giving you 5fps more usually. So yes, its better but its by no means a land slide victory.
Whats that corny saying...
Whether you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning.
I agree you'll most probably never notice the difference, but I'm fed up with people just spewing out AMD is better for games, which it just is not!
I suppose it game across as land slide as all 3 of those Intel processors beat all 3 of those AMDs.![]()
But I agree with Shark, you dont want an old chipset! With computer parts, you must make sure you buy the latest (within affordable means) otherwise you going no where in the techno tree..
I only smoke the imported stuff![]()
I have finally decided on getting either the:
AMD Phenom II 965 3.4Ghz black edition Quad core
or
AMD Phenom II 945 3.0Ghz Quad Core
For a new system for GAMING. I was automatically going for the 965 because its awesome but it now turns out I can get the 945 for R600 less without losing too much power.
My decision then changed to the 945 with intentions of overclocking until I saw that the 965 has an unlocked multiplier meaning I can overclock happily with that chip.
decisions decisions
Thoughts?
lol depends on your screen size.. but a good GPU will have more of an impact on gaming definitely! Assuming there is no bottle neck between CPU and GPU.. celeron + 5970 would be a bad idea![]()
That's the thing dude.. I already have a 5850, so I want to get a monster CPU that would be able to run nice with 2 of those babies. AMD or Intel? What's it gunna be!
I hate buying CPUs because I never know what to take! :wtf:
How big an impact does L1 and L2 cache make on gaming performance? What's the diffs between DDR2 and 3?
to0ken,get a yourself 955be,overclock it beyond a 965be and get yourself that other 5850![]()
Don't forget that by going AMD you can use the money saved in other areas like getting more ram or partial money towards an SSD.
AMD is the way to go. I'd also suggest the 955BE. I have one.![]()
lol you definitly wont save save R3000 by going a 955 over an i5 750 thats for surehaha. But if you do plan on going xfire make sure that the board you buy is 16x 16x. And that will most likely set you back quite a bit.. If I was you I'd sell your 5850 and buy two gtx 460's! Cheaper and more performance

Sad thing is, he won't get that much for his 5850. Maybe enough to buy one GTX 460 1Gb.![]()
