CPU fan stopped working

So my PC shut down randomly a little while ago. Switched it back on and got a CPU fan error so I opened up the PC to check.

The fan doesn't spin anymore. I used a vacuum cleaner to blow out dust and there wasn't much so that isn't the issue. The fan spins freely and extremely fast when holding the vacuum over it whilst switched off. I then pulled out and reconnected the fan power connector. Still not spinning at all.

So I think my CPU fan is busted. The other fans in my case spin and I even tried connecting the CPU fan to one of the fan connectors for the case. Still nothing.

There was some lightning last night so maybe that could have done something. I used the PC for about 6 hours straight today with heavy gaming though until it switched off randomly.

Any other recommendations to try before I purchase another fan/cooler? This is the stock fan/cooler for the FX8350 CPU which I've been using for over 3 years.

Just see if one of the other fans still work on the cpu header.

Yeah, the other fan works fine with the cpu header. Just tested. Was also concerned it might be the motherboard. Looks more and more like just a busted cpu fan.

If there's nothing much else to test, what would be a good replacement cooler? Googling says Coolermaster Hyper 212.

Edit: This also looks reasonably priced and is on special. Googled a few reviews and seems good.

I have that cooler, it works well.
Just note that it's a huge cooler (Dimensions: 95×55×136 mm).

Think I'll go for it. My case is the Coolermaster 690 iii so it should fit.

Also remembered I had an old stock intel cooler laying around. Tested the fan with my PC and it worked fine. So definitely stock fan busted.
