I'm looking at getting an 8800gts 320mb (G80) for a second pc. It'll be paired with a socket 939 board. What will be the minimum CPU required to not bottle neck the card? Or will it bottle neck any socket 939 AMD processor?

You'll need a 4600+. But even a 4400+ will be ok.

My question is where are you going to get a socket 939 cpu from?

Get the fasted dual core you can.

It will depend on the resolution that you play at. At low resolution you will be CPU bottlenecked and at high resolution you will be GPU bottlenecked. What resolution is your screen? If you've play at a lowish resolution your framerates will be decent even with the CPU bottleneck.

I have an [email protected] with a HD4870 and am CPU bottlenecked at 1360x768. Checked this by lowering the resolution to 800x600 with all graphics set to ultra high in FarCry 2. The FPS remained the at 39fps at both resolutions so I'm CPU bottlenecked. But my framrates are still good at max settings. Even with GTAIV a which is one of the most demanding games on the CPU, with graphics settings as high as it can go I get average 36fps. When my framerates start dropping on newer games then I'll just stick in a Q9550.

So you should get the new GPU. You'd still have decent framerates, depending on the resolution you play at.
