Im about To buy a new Computer, just wanna knowwhat is better, getting a big CPU or a big GPU - AMD 64 x2 4400 & Geforce 6800GT or AMD 64 3500+ & Geforce 7900GT

Sorry if there is a similar post, thx for help

That obviously depends on what you'll be using the machine for. If it's for gaming, then a faster GPU, if NOT for gaming, a faster CPU...

Yeah, I'd also go with 7900GT however as Dae said, if you're a graphics designer who likes to play music while web browsing and burning a DVD, a dual-core would be better imo.

with the new AMD pricing - I'd go 3800 X2(R1499.00) + 7900GT

Ditto what willirob says ... get a cost effective (Rands vs. Performance) X2 CPU and bigger GPU (like 79xx series!). If you are even considering a new PC with an additional graphics card, I'm guessing you're into your gaming/multimedia type PC ... The 7900GT will set you back a lot of cash though, also depends on your budget! Even the cheapest X2 is fine for almost every game, it's the GPU that takes strain!

Another vote for this setup. But honestly if you add another R200 - R300 you could get a 4200+ which performs almost as good (about 5 -10% slower) as the 4400+.

But definately get the 7900GT. :)

i would not advise buying a 6800gt or 7900gt is your not going to game

a 7300gt should be fine

Sweet thx for the Feed back, The Comp is going to be for gaming mainly, i also just saw the new price lists so im going to get the 4200 x2 + the 7900gt.

nice :D

Don't mean to dis the x2's or people who like them at all, ..but I don't have any problem multi-tasking, ..I'm a designer who plays music and always has stacks of things open, ..I have a 3200+ which I bought for like R750, overclocked it with EASE to 2.6GHz (could go higher but I'm happy there)
, ..and it friggin' rocks, ..honestly I don't understand why a x2 is worth so much more money, sure if you have it to blow, no probs, but hmm, ..I just don't totally get it..
No beef tho, just pondering ;) :)

Ok, so here's my suggestion:
Get the 3200+ AMD A64 E6, overclock to 2.5 - 2.8GHz+, whatever you're happy with, and get a 7900gt, do a 1.4v mod, and overclock to 600/1600,
happy days! :)

Oh, and use the extra cash to get 2x 1GB Ram..

Haha, you obviously haven't used a x2 then ...I thought the same as you until I decided to get my hands on one. Of course it don't mean much if you ain't got enough RAM to compliment it.

My vote would be for a 3800+ x2 (or higher & make sure to get the new prices!) with a 7600GT - should fit the budget nicely.

Im think ill just go for the 4200 x2 and Geforce 7900gt, i dont really like to overclock, and i dont think ill start doning it unless they offer "OVERCLOCKERS INSURENCE" <--- Fat chance of that ever happening....... thx for the suggestion any way.
