I saw this app now for the first time on Tomshardware.

Something strange that I don't understand is that under Core Speed it says 1598.5MHz but I have a 2.4Ghz chip.

Why is that?

what OS u using?

i think it could also be that intel declocks cpu's to keep them running low or something to that effect

open it up and open a program that is cpu intensive see if it goes higher

And another thing.

Under SPD (Memory Slot Selection)

It shows DDR2
Module Size - 1024MBytes
Max Bandwidth - PC2-5300 (333MHz)

Why only 333MHz? Is it because it runs in dual mode that it changes to 667MHz or what?

YES, 333*2-667, 400*2=800
Regarding the 1.6 and 2.4GHZ speed, it's normal because CPU do not run at full speed all the time to save power, only run at full when needed. You can always switch it off in BIOS to keep your BIOS running at full speed.;)

Won't teach you, we need to save electricity together from now:D

:D

I tried it quickly. Now I know why my CPU has got two cores. It's much faster using two cores than when it's using the whole CPU as one.

I think it's that Intel speed step* kind of like AMD's Cool and Quite, it lowers the CPU's speed to use less energy.
*not too sure if that is the corect name

As for Daul Core I think most App's/Games these days fully support both cores :) makes it that much better! :D

Yeah thats Speed Step.

It changes the multiplier and voltage as required. Rather cool imo.

My E6550 switches between 2.33ghz and 2ghz. The Size of the jump depends on the bus speed and the multiplier range that is unlocked for that CPU. In my case either 6*333=2ghz or 7*333=2.33ghz.

Makes a massive difference CPU temp wise because the voltage is also changed. Either 26C or 40C in my case.

Sounds like your multiplier has a much bigger range. Therefore only 1.5ghz.

Easy test: Watch the numbers in CPU-Z. Then select some window like explorer or something and drag that around the screen like mad. Speedstep should recognize the load and boost the CPU to full performance. Not a very sophisticated way of checking...but it works.

Always luv it when my BIOS runs at full speed. :D
