TOC the crusader patterns gives you access to the best gear... however the orbs are still very rare and can only be obtained via raiding. Next patch the orbs can be bought with badges.
For the time being, the ulduar orbs gives you access to very very good craftable items like the belt of dragons, boots of living scale etc etc.

you would want to buy the uldaur boots and belt. Then the normal letherworking legs and bracers . Then the necklace form jewelcrafting and the ring. Then the gun from engineering

If you are playing survival, I wouldnt touch the items (bracers + leggings + ring + necklace) heretic mentioned (apart from the gun)... although it would work in survival, its very far from optimal gear choices.
However if you are spec'd into MM, its a pretty good idea to stack up on the ArP items he mentioned.
They made it pretty easy to get decent gear with badges. Do every single heroic instance and farm badges like crazy. Some very nice item level 226 and higher available from the badge vendors.
