Hallo,

I did a self-install on my ADSL and got one of those CRAP Telkom ADSL Routers( MEGA 100WR).

The problem in having is this:

When i configure the router in BRIDGE mode, it seems that only 2 PPPoE connections to the router is possible. If more connections is made, then i get timeouts on websites, and some doesn't even load, it's like being on a really bad wireless network. The thing is, im using route sentry, and so is my friend who lives with me, so we both need 2 pppoe connections at a time, which is a total of 4. But it seems that the router doesn't like that...

Does anyone have the same problem, is there anything i can try?

Here is a screenshot of my current config:

Erm, i don't connect with 1 account, i use a different account for each connection...

(2x WebAfrica 30GB Local and 2x International PrePaid Accounts)

FaNIX, hard reset the reset the router. Then setup the different PPPOE connections on the computers. This worked for me, I'm running on 3 different ISPs via PPPOE on 2 Different PCs at the moment.

Have you tried running routesentry on each PC with just one bridge account on the router?

my mistake i thought you had created two pppoe connections on the router. what happens when you only have one PC connected to the router? Is it able to connect to the internet without issue?

Yes it routesentry works fine with 2 PPoE connections when only one PC is connected to the Router, which is set to Bridge mode. As soon as another PC creates a PPoE connection while there are already 2 open, thats when everything gets unstable and timeouts occur.

Have you considered running a linux box with squid and squidguard on it to do your PPPoE,NAT and firewalling? it would probably make your life alot easier and be more stable.

i would say its the router, and it aint gonna change...
Anything Telkom dishes out for free isnt that great, we know from experience with their other routers. If you can update the firmware i would suggest you do it, if anything is going to solve that problem, it will be an upgrade..
I have had problems with the Billions that telkom used to give out, any more than 3 PPPoE connections and one of my connections would time out...

Thanks man. Should i just search google for a update on my router? I guess it will probably replace the telkom firmware with the orginal on?

I totally agree. They broke into my house a few weeks ago and stole 3 pc's, including my the linux gateway. Im trying to get hold of a old P2/3 PC so that i can install Gentoo on it again. But for now im stuck with route sentry :(

Currently on Telkom's website (here), 99.70.1 is the latest firmware. I had a look on Aztech's Malaysian site, where this device (also called the DSL600EW) is found and they have a version named "Firmware 99.53.1-008", but I'd rather not mess with the customizations which 2C's made for our local environment.

Why do people always complain about stuff they get for free?

For Free? huh, with telkom they always have a way of getting the money back for the things they "CLAIM" you get for free... so don't tune me that i'm complaining for something i got for free!!

Actually those are free modems, Telscum needed to get their installation times shortened to comply with Government regulations so they had to provide incentive for people to "install" themselves and the free modem was incentive (along with the saving of installation charges)
Granted the modems have never been worth much cos they are far from the best quality but I have one and it seems to work fine for now.

EISH and I will be going for Self-Install pretty soon

I am getting my own line so that I don't share with the neighbour and pay half his old ridiculous MWEB contract fees and Line rental.

Fanix....that router works 100%

if you have problems getting it to work the way you like it - don't generalize and say its a "CRAP" router.

have a customer on that exact router on bridge mode - total of 7 sessions - without ANY problems.
