Crashing card??

Sounds great in theory but you need to experience customer care here in the UK. The botton line is that they don't give a rats if they keep you as a customer or not. It all works on money. If your account is costing them in time and hence money they would rather loose you as a customer than try to solve the problem. The shop claim they do not have another card in store to try and that kind of cuts you off short. The shop staff have virtually no technical knowledge and an average age of 19. That said the young guy who tried to help me actually seemed as if he did care but just doesn't know where to start. His solution is to change the SIM card and try that. He also offered to bring his personal PC laptop in so he could try my card in that. If we get it working in the UK neither I or they, have any way of seeing what happens in another country short of me going there. Insisting on an instant solution will result in their closing my account leaving me without any card at all. Actually the GPRS is useful but I am paying for 3G. As you can see there is no easy suggestion. It would be nice to think that Vodafone actually care if the product works but they don't.

Update

In desperation I emailed Mac support at novamedia.de. These are the people who write the Mac software for Vodafone. As they are located in Berlin I figured they would be the best people to help with the card crashing problem in Germany. I outlined the problem and asked for advice. the response that came back is unbelievable. They told me that the software they supply to Vodafone does not support roaming. Solution was to upgrade to their software. Now after the hours I have spent with Vodafone tech support to resolve this problem you might think they could have mentioned that the software does not support roaming! Probably it is the case that the technicians simply do not know. Apparently Vodafone have plans to update the software but they don't know when.
Well I have purchased and downloaded the High Speed Connect software and it seems to work perfectly with the vodafone card. the test will be the next time I visit Germany but so far so good. It is much improved anyway as I have loads more options in the settings.
I will report back if the card crashing problem is solved - or not :-)

know whats cool here? vodacom been active and attempting to resolve issues. pity its so expensive, otherwise i would look at it.

You are right and I am very grateful for all the help that visitors to this forum have provided. That is especially true of Vodacom3G. Thanks a lot. In the end it does not seem to be a technical problem that anyone could help with but until I have the opportunity to test thoroughly I still don't know if I have a solution. It is because of your help, generously given, that I continue to post my updates. you never know but someone else with the same problem might stumble across this and find it useful. :)

Hi Alan

That's dumbfounding - Mac card software doesn't support roaming .

Thanks for updating us :) I am wondering if the same problem might exist with the Mac software that we have here...

Please could you post a url to the company that sells the Mac s/w, also how much did the new s/w set you back (presumably Euros)?

Added: Ooops - sorry I missed it www.novamedia.de

Yes you got it. Their Mac Help seems very good and replies within minutes. They also have software for Windows and Palm etc. The cost of the Mac software was EUR 75. If I can get a reliable connection when roaming it will be worth every cent. I already spent more than that trying to sort out the problem.

We received a new version, yesterday, of the MAC software for testing. It's being put through its paces at the moment.

Maybe we can ask a few forumites to partake in the testing? PM me and I'll try and set it up.
