Crazy things invented in SA

In 1991 South African Gervan Lubbe is credited for inventing the Action Potential Stimulation (APS) device, which Lubbe said “electronically stimulates the body’s natural nerve impulses to relieve pain”.

Over the next few years Lubbe received tremendous accolades for his APS device which was sold across the world. There was only one problem – the system was a fake.

:wtf:

Curiously APS devices are still available to purchase online.

...and I've been saving up for 13 years to buy one of these

Well. Mac Maharaj was invented in SA. And he invented extreme spindoctoring

hey, i remember seeing that 'huck fijacker' system at one of the motorshows, or Rand Show one year... press button or step on pedal and neat flame comes out the side of your car, promptly toasting would be hijacker. was on some international TV show also.
when we were stuck in traffic in busy city street one night, guys broke the side windows and demanded valuables from us inside, i so wished we had that system :)
Sadly it was deemed illegal... crims need their rights too :(
they could've toned it down a bit, make it 'not lethal' just give evil-doer a good toasty, so he'd decide to rather put foot and gtfo.

probly looks nice for the guys doing street races at nite, and gooi flames

"South Africans are behind some of the world’s greatest inventions and developments, including the first hearth transplant,"

The above needs fixing.

Also the anti rape condoms would more than like result in the death of the victim and only pain for the offender.

No one remembers the professor that created a perpetual motion device? Little car/worm thingy that featured on Cart Blanche?

Car flamethrower FTW - wish I had it, would love to toast the windscreen washers at intersections.

dont think it was ZA brainchild... i was reading up on some Popular Mechanics magazines.... you can read old issues going back to about 1912 or so on their website... interesting to see how the world evolved in 100years!
in one issue, somewhere in early 2000s i think, one state in USA started with it, also with overhead gantry and tag etc.
but of course for them the reasoning behind it was different and management different, etc etc etc, so not such a big outcry.
the way it was implimented and thought out in ZA - yes thats the crazy bit :)
