any help would be appreciated

Any CRC Errors means there is a line problem between the exchange and you so could be anything under the sun.

So check first if your line is noisy by picking up your handset and if it is call Telkom and file a complaint about the phone line quality not an adsl fault, then get your fault number sent to your phone via SMS.

Phone the next day to query it and ask them to escalate your fault and if you lucky it takes 1 - 3 business days for them to come fix your phone line

Well thats how I did it by phoning 10210 to fix my line after lightning struck it out and broke the dslam card.

Your ADSL stats also shows that you're pretty far from the DSLAM/exchange, which would mean that you could struggle to get a stable 4Mbps connection.
Unfortunately downgrading the line speed to 1Mbps won't change anything, since your upstream speed would remain at 512kbps.

A faulty/poor ADSL filter could also influence your upstream signal. If you can go without a telephone, then I'd suggest that your remove your telephone & ADSL filter completely and plug in the ADSL modem directly in on the Telkom box.
If that doesn't change anything, then I'm really unsure about what you can do. I don't know if Telkom can downgrade your upstream speed to something below 512kbps whilst keeping your downstream speed higher than 1Mbps.
