Create Apartheid parks to replace statues - Nzimande

It was everyone's nature at that time. Europeans were not unique, they just happened to be superior in technology.

Exactly, history is written by the victors and until 1994 that was us, now they are the victors and are wanting to write their history, we never listened to their side before, why should they listen to ours.

Was it done with them fully understanding the implications or was it done unethically with another agenda in mind.

Do not be blind to the past, Europeans came in ships with guns to take over the land and enslave the people. This was our nature back then.

And then some are descendents of the Vryburghers who were themselves abused by the V.O.C., who sought a patch of land to call their own and grant others the same. After more than 10 generations in Africa this is home and no longer a colonialist outpost.

On the contrary, tribal leaders had their wishes made known to the Apaat-Hate government and there were more than one instance in which the 'natives' were exalted at having their own territory. More than 50% of the annual budget was at times allocated to black interests at a time when the majority of blacks did not pay tax.

Exactly, so their traditional areas should have been respected as opposed to the Unification of South Africa as promoted by Jan Hoffmeyer, Jan Smuts, Cecil John Rhodes and the influence of his kintergarden in which the white man was to rule supreme. The Boer Republics were created by both negotiation and conquest just like natives were in constant tribal warfare between themselves. It's the British who turned on their own empire with the Wind(s) Of Change speech and decolonization policy that left all in shambles without catering for the survival of the European descendent save fairy-tale pie in the sky integrationism which leaves no cultural grouping content and only English as a real official language.

I cannot fault you here my friend, you are right on the money. Exactly the same happened in Angola and Mozambique to terrible loss of life. We have been fortunate as a nation to not have had a civil war during the change over. But the people are frustrated and the leaders we have are fueling that frustration for their own means. It frustrates me to no end when discussing politics with my friends at work, how they have been brainwashed for lack of a better word to what they assume they are entitled to. You allude to something at the end which I find is possibly the key to the whole thing, no cultural recognition for all, why is English the only real official language? Why are we not taught Xhosa or Zulu at every school [dependent on localization of course] why is Afrikaners been forced to abandon their mother tongue to fit in more and more. This is the tragedy, they are loosing their cultural identity slowly but surely.

Again, it is because people have romantic ideas about life and reality. Reality does not bend to people's preconceptions of how things should be (however well the intentions), instead problems must be face head-on in a pragmatic rather than pedantic way. The reason the various languages are not promoted is because of practical realities such as tremendous costs and logistics involved. In a perfect world I am not even that opposed to English per se nor adamant on Afrikaans but understand that various cultures want to preserve their language. I consider myself adaptive enough to let go of the past , I just feel that we are sitting in this melting pot which is not working.

Yeah a Memorial Park would be a better name...

And yes I do catch what you mean, ideally its a "solution" that should not be needed, but the current situation may require some strange solutions to keep the history of this country from being completely erased.

The statues are hardly a telling of history.

You can't erase the past even if you removed all the statues.

I have a great idea. ANC give 1/3 of the country no matter how rural or destitute to the white people.

Give the Northern Cape :)

How hillllaaaarious would it be if they do that, and in 5 years the Republic of the Northern Cape has got a lower crime rate and higher economic growth than the RSA lol
