Creating AVIs

My Dad recently got work on the Atlantic Explorer, a sea-floor mapping ship. The problem is that he is on the ship 5 weeks at a time and the only time he really needs to do something is if someone gets hurt, he's the medical officer on the ship. Needless to say that he gets quite bored.

He's got a collection of DVD (movies and series) but to try and carry all that around is a pain. What he's been doing is making copies of the DVDs (using DVDShrink) onto his portable drive.

Obviously this is taking a lot of space. I'd like to be able to rip the DVDs into AVI form so that it doesn't take up as much so that he can take more along.

So, what programs would be best to use when creating AVI from DVDs? :confused:

go look at winavi's range toxin, all very good

buy the program though man because its worth it

I've used tons of dvd-rippers but I have to say that FairUse Wizard is the absolute best. Brilliant quality and you have total control.
 
AutoGK is definitely the program to use. It has an easy to use interface and you can select the output size.
 
I used SimpleDivX, just make a ISO with DVD Shrink, then run it through Simple DivX to reduce the size. It's a great Combo!!
