Hi there,

I would really appreciate if someone could assist and guiding me in connecting my FTP server to other computers in my office (for testing) and also at home.

Currently, my office adsl internet is behind a DLINK DSL-G604T (modem & router) ver 1. The applications I am using is DYNDNS for my ip address (when i did a cmd & ping the e.g. mydomain.dyndns.org it works. I have installed DYNDNS updater too. For my FTP server, I am using Serv-U 6.3.0.1 and for me to access my FTP, I am using Ipswitch WS_FTP Pro 2007.

All firewall, temporary turn off.

When connecting the server from the Primary pc (WinXP Pro SP2 Genuine) where I install all the Serv-U and WS_FTP it works, I can see the folders and files but when I tried connecting it from several pc's in my office, the message received was { Connection Error Finding host ftp.dyndns.org ... Connecting to 127.0.0.1:2121 Connect failure }

I am at my wits end here. Any assistance and guidance is greatly appreciated.

Edi

Did you set up the port forwarding in your router? So that requests to port 2121 get directed to the FTP machine? Cause the 127.0.0.1 it tries to connect to, means it is connecting to the local machine. If you get this message from one of the PC's in the office, it means they are trying to connect to themselfs.. When you ping your dyndns url, what IP address gets resolved?

Yes, I did. I follow the portfowarding website. I even configure my primary pc with static ip. 192.168.1.100

Ok, then the dyndns thing was setup incorrectly - it is pointing to 127.0.0.1 - that is a default ip that means point to yourself.

Ok, did you set the dyndns thing up via the router, or via the FTP machine? I am not familliar with "DYNDNS updater" - is this an application you install on the machine ?

Yes, sleeper. The DYNDNS updater will update the my ip address if it changes coz mine, I am using a dynamic ADSL internet plan.

So, what should I do to make it point to my current ip address for the FTP server?

I've got the same router, and all that is necessary is to (on the home page), go to "DynamicDNS", select dyndns.org from the drop down list, then type in your dyndns username and password. Not sure about the hostname thing anymore, try ftp.dyndns.org.

when you set this up via the router, then the router will notify DynDNS of your new IP if you get a new IP address - just to make sure - you are not using routesentry or something like that - right ? The router is not running in bridged mode, right ?

I don't think its the same as mine do not have DynamicDNS, no drop down menu too. Nope to routesentry and bridge. Just wondering why it could access from the primary pc?

We had that router, and prior to a firmware update there was no DynamicDNS option, after the firmware update, it was there.

As long as you forward port 21 through to the locally connected ftp server ip, it will work from outside. Remember (speak under correction) you cannot access xxx.dyndns.org from within the network connected to the router. You will have to access it from outside.

I have check and my firmaware is V1.00B02T02.SG.20041110. Ok, I will try to do the firmware upgrade and also will try to access it from my fren office and try to see whether a connection can be made. thanks sleeper and carudden

I have just check the latest firmware and its the same firmware I am having now. So should I upgrade it or just leave it? Btw, I am from Singapore, so my Dlink website which I go to is www.dlink.com.sg. Can i download the adsl2 or others from other country website?

Hmmm, but somehow, you will either need to get the external IP address from the router and do the update to dyndns manually, or, you will have to upgrade the firmware for it to do it automatically.

Firmware can be found here : ftp://ftp.dlinktech.co.za/Product Drivers and Firmware/DSL-G604T/

Oh, ok, sorry - only saw now you not from SA... Not sure then what you need to run to update the firmware - I have installed some Australian version of the firmware on my router before and it worked fine - but, iirc, they say when you upgrade to the ADSL2 firmware, it is for keeps, no turning around then !

Go here, get your friend to try and access your ftp server using the IP address listed.

If you can get that going, you know your forwarding is working ok, then tackle the ip updating.

We are currently using the DynDSN updater application, it has run smoothly since we installed it ages ago.

Be careful about using another country's firmware, it may be conditioned for local conditions. Befre upgrading firmware, rather contact the tech support to see if it will help.

yes carudden, I am also using DYNDSN updater too. Btw, I just noticed, everytime I did a refresh from the link you given me the ip address changes. Duh! Confuse, on why it kept changing.

Me too! are you accessing the internet solely through the ADSL? - you could be getting international access through a proxy, ie each access to the page would be displayed as from a different IP...

In DynDNS Updater on the Info tab, does the Current and Updated IP's look similar to the one provided by the link?

Try ask your friend to connect using the Current IP listed by the Updater.

yes, solely ADSL. Nope not the same from DynDNS ip is 121.6.54.244 and from the link its 165.21.155.15
