India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja fetched the highest bid in the IPL 2012 auction, being signed up by Chennai Super Kings for more than $2m after they beat Deccan Chargers in a secret tiebreaker. Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene went to Delhi Daredevils for $1.4m and India medium-pacer Vinay Kumar to Royal Challengers Bangalore for $1m. The auction was held under a cloud of controversy following the breaking news, an hour before its scheduled start, that Sahara was pulling out of its Pune franchise.

Did the auction work the same as last year when the players have a say in setting their base price?

Still think Chris Gayle's worth much more than that.

There's something seriously wrong with this auction.
Ageing Aussie discard Brad Hodge goes for K475 and Levi cant even get a buyer for K50.
Where is Kallis,DeVilliers and Duminy.

meh

I dont think the auction is finished yet, I might be mistaken though. Or those guys were already bought last year on 2 year contracts.

Players that were bought in the previous auction are kept in the squad for 3 year contracts I think.

must be the same if you look at the registrations.

This years auction has been scaled down quite dramatically compared to last year:

If thats the case what the hell was Philander doing, putting himself at $200 000. He is an unproven ODI or T20 player and yet he think he is valued so high.

I can see why the English players were so unpopular, they are hardly there for the tournament yet had huge priced tags.

Although Levi for $50 000 was unlucky not to get picked. Also Herath and Mendis were good bargains that weren't taken.

I wonder how the DD can pay so much for Jayawardene for so much given his recent form.
Unusual to see De lange getting picked up ahead of Lopsy.

English rate themselves too highly. What a bunch of chops.

Already has a county contract, i.e. got nothing to lose. In fact I think it's important for him to play first class in England before the tour.
