Kallis captained the team a few months ago and I must say he is very bland, boring captain with not much of an imagination...Boucher gets influenced way too easily when under pressure. Prince showed a few months ago as well he was a crap captain.

As Jonty said, let Smith do captaining duties only instead of all the other stuff...sometimes he's thick and attacks other captains but mind games do count as well...

Ren, his average against quality teams has been good. Against Eng and Pak he's done very well...there's no denying that. As I said, he has junk team to captain. Bowlers only bowl well on certain days. Look at the Indians...they bowled so well at JHB cos they bowled at the right places. U can be the best captain in the world but if your bowlers don't bowl according to your field what can you do.

We needed a different captain at the time. Not the 'angel' like captains of Pollock, Cronje and Wessels. Smith was extravagant, arrogant and aggressive. That was they way we could've deflected attacks from captains from other teams. Every teams starts their verbal jibes and we needed someone to counter that not just taking it lying down.

only crap average is against eng and ind...you guys are looking at that and saying 'oh it's the small teams he scores mostly against'...though he does scored lots of runs against small teams, does averaging over 40 against the other teams don't count?

I would have smith in the team just for his captaincy...

You mean Aus and Ind hey? Against Eng he averages more than 50. And as for those "weaker" countries go...if there's runs to be taken off them, why not?

k very sorry i posted wrong info :D.. i remember him scoring a double hundred against bangladesh so i blurted it out....

Even that said, look at his average against west indies, zimbabwe and bangladesh.... 76, 81 and 63.

only decent team he has a good average against is pakistan, and ofcoarse england..... Look what happened against australia :( even newzealand dont have the best of attacks (esp without bond)...

So i would say his realistic average against the quality teams would be around 35..

However all said, it would be disastrous to change captains now before world cup so i hope it doesnt happen........He can bat very well. I remember him scoring effortless runs in the first ODI against india earlier in the year. He just needs to stop being so cocky and arrogant and play cricket instead of talking big all the time... ( i was so embarrassed when he started talking big before the australia tour)

Hmmmm native...South Africa is kinda pushing it so...NO, India is not on a roll bud, sorry. If you push the run rate, you take risks. 9 runs in the over AND the wicket... Plus Amla should never have come in now. Send in Polly, Gibbs or Bouch.

hehe..sorry...yeah Aus and Ind...every other player fleece the small teams as well...even Ponting. Hayden's then record 380 but no one moaned about it.

150 more runs and we're sorted...hope we can do that in 35 overs then we have a good chance. Pitch has varying bounce now so India will be in the **** if we post a target of 350+ but in good time.
 
West Indies is not a small team. You can't consider them that...also take into account the actual number of runs scored against the lesser teams..they weigh less than the ones against the stronger teams. it's not a even weighting for all teams.

Kallis was a crap captain this year? I completely disagree.. and most commentators and former players agree with me..
He did a fantastic job against aus. I dunno if u remember.
We coulda won that match easily if we jst held onto half the million catches that we dropped. every1 was full of praise for kallis..

Ur right, the captain cant change anything... the best captain probably couldnt change anything at jhb.

another thing.. You cant have smith jst for his captaincy... thats jst not right.. cant waste a space in the team if he doesnt perform
 
Smith bowled...cant be too aggressive...

Kallis is a crap captain...he's a great batsman but he's not a captain.
 
Well yes ur right it does weigh less.. However. An average of 24 and 28 against two of the stronger teams in world cricket doesnt look good. Im not saying west indies is a small team. But in tests be honest,without taylor, they have no1 that can take wickets on flatish wickets. Its like playing against zim... Same can be said about newzealand when theyre without bond..(excluding vettori ofcoarse)
So i think an average of 35 in tests is fair for smith.... you dont see kallis doing crappy against any single big team ( again i think so please no1 check up on me :D)

It doesnt really matter if smith gets out i think. if we get to a lead of 300 or 350 its fine.cos indians wont have enuf time to get that cos of light etc...
