CRICKET: SA vs Pakistan

Kallis has lost some appeal for me. His snail like approach to scoring. Although, this has been his 1 downfall throughout his career.

No you dont, where did you get that info from?

Sorry, thanks for pointing it out. I meant the best batsman in SA for the no.3 position, yet we play Amla in that position. Agreed he is not the best no.3 in the world. :o

i dont actually understand why we having another torny just before the world cup!!? what would happen if Ntini and polly pick up some nigs and nags(injury) i mean 3 freaking tests plus a one dayer series??!! WTF!! maybe India/pakistan/SA should of had a tri-angular series.

i personally think this is waste of a tour!

That would have been the best series ever!!!

The world cup is not the be and end all of international cricket. The players should earn their money, they get paid handsomely for making cricket a career, and they should play. This resting of players for this or that reason has got to stop - it's bull****. Cricketers are increasingly lazy - in the good old days cricketers held down day jobs in addition to playing cricket. So what if someone picks up an injury - the show should go on.

Yeah i know the show goes on "but" what happens if we pick some injury's to some key players just before the world cup? 3 tests plus a handful of one dayers will take its toll on our main bowlers.Polly isnt a spring chicken anymore,Ntini is at his peak, nel and steyn are renowned for there injury list ect ect are we going to call upon the "yo-YO man instead!?

Couldn't agree with you more.
This just adds to and raises another point, the lack of competitive play these days from the big boys.
A lot of the 1st team players haven't even played 1st class cricket in quite a while. Yet we expect them to perform.
How are they supposed to stay in the game?
How are they supposed to remain confident? For a batsman, this means scoring runs.
How must a bowler keep his bowling lines without continuous match practice?

They don't say practice makes perfect, for nothing.

Whoever decides the important players should not play 1st class cricket, must get their heads knocked in.
If memory serves, Amla is but one example of this.

Players are treated like babies theses days. And not just in cricket.

Then we play new players in those places. P.S. How many of those players were injured before the actual games started? In any case, if you start resting a player too long, then they lose match practice, and anyone that's played or playing cricket at any level from provincial level and upwards will tell you there is no better place to practice than out in the middle.

IMO players that are injury-prone just aren't fit enough or they are doing something wrong to begin with.
Period.

Yeah - even rugby players are "rested" these days. When sport was still mostly amateur, this crap never happened, nowadays, it's becoming the norm.

do you guys have any idea how much cricket SA has left?

we still have to play PAK then.......10-12 days we off to world cup!

my point im trying to get across to you guys is

1)what if we suffer injury's to key players like Polly,Ntini,Kallis,Nel and Steyn?? who going to bowl for us?Chuck Norris?

2)South Africa changes it batting line up more than we change our undies! Our selection process is pathetic!! and you guys think they can find more players"with match fitness" to take our hopes to a world cup?

3)the only good thing i can see coming from the pak's is just simple practice.

this is going to be fun.

Once again... The World Cup is not the be and end all of international cricket. If anything, the World Cup is more a status and spectator event than a cricketing event.

Cricket is their job. Which they only do for like 3/4 of the year. Being professionals, they must deal with that. I would kill for 12 consecutive days off, during the 'working' season.

1/ There are other bowlers in SA. Injuries happen, just like me being in a car accident tomorrow morning. There will always be someone to fill the space.

2/ I would like to know your source about the "undies" comment :D

3/ It is always the most (apparent) simplest things which reaps the most benefits.

Ditto!
Test cricket still remains the true benchmark of any cricketer.

Simple practice? Lol could be disastrous for SA, The Pakis are in top form atm, SA cant sit back and relax, they have to win!!

I doubt they can do it.:)

When did this happen? They were in dismal form during the ICC Champions Trophy. They may stand a chance in the test matches but as is the case with the other subcontintental teams they often perform poorly away from the subcontinent.

Especially here in SA, they suck!
But I think they a different team this time, I hope im right!:)

I think man for man SA has a better team... I also saw that SA have "ordered" a fast, bouncy track for Newlands, which may indicate the intention to go for all out pace attacks... In other news, Yousuf may miss two tests.

I would think SA would order/opt for West Indies like pitches... considering they need to prepare themselves for those conditions...

That would be the better option!
