CRICKET: SA vs Pakistan

....further more, the pakis have a good coach. Which, can help. But anything can happen with these guys. More often than not, though, they suck at cricket.

I think man for man SA has a better team... I also saw that SA have "ordered" a fast, bouncy track for Newlands, which may indicate the intention to go for all out pace attacks... In other news, Yousuf may miss two tests.

I would think SA would order/opt for West Indies like pitches... considering they need to prepare themselves for those conditions...
*sigh* - must everything always be accompanied with a substantiating link?

Shoaib Akhtar included for the first test seeing that Gul is injured

Akhtar and Asif!

Just to get on to Kallis for a mo... do you guys think he will EVER score a double century?? Perhaps against Zim or Bangladesh but I think he will go down as the best test batsman SA has NOT to have scored a double. He can be so destructive and he is SOOOOO talented... remember the fastest test 50?
Oh, he can do it alright, but not in a five day test match. We'll have to wait for the next timeless test. A five day match is simply too short for our Jacques.

I suppose the same would go for Prince....

I think he past that form already, if he doesnt have it now he wont get it.

From News24:

Akhtar to miss first Test
"There have been problems with his travel schedule and he will not be able to leave before the first Test," Saleem Altaf, director of cricket operations, told Reuters.

"But he will certainly join the team before the second Test from Jan 19," Altaf added.

Pakistan have already lost batsman Mohammad Yousuf and all-rounder Shoaib Malik for the opening Test. Yousuf is caring for his ill wife and Malik is recovering from an ankle injury.

hmmm without yousuf, the batting is not as strong. Pakis have always had a weak batting lineup when compared to their bowling...they dont have any solid players with technique, like a dravid, kallis etc...
Inzi is okay but hes also inconsistent on seaming pitches..

But wow, asif is impressive... IMHO hes the best young fast bowler in the world.
He may not perform well cos hes been out of action for so long... but hes certainly one for the future... He looks like a normal bowler and his action is pretty ordinary. But wow, he can make the ball talk and hes accurate.
should be interesting to see how the sa top order face up....

think if pakis bat well it will be a competitive test...Pity shoib and umar gula rent playing (especially gul).. Then the sa batting would have been really tested against top quality bowling.

Scary proposition that, asif, shoib, gul and kaneira. If they are all fully fit and in form, their probably only second to the aussies in terms of bowling.batting still very inconsistent.as woolmer said on cricinfo, its their batting that will decide whether they can compete with sa on these pitches

Two quick wickets from Ntini has changed the game a bit considering Pak had a decent start.

Man, I forgot about the cricket! :(

Pakistan 136/2 (50.0 ov)
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first
Day 1 - Session 2

194/4 is looking marginally more respectable.

I notice that Harris is going for not too many runs. That looks good.

Anybody watching the carnage? SA has 8/2 after bowling Pakistan out for 311 something.
