Had one of the biggest crushes on Mignon du Preez whilst playing indoor cricket. She represented SA at u/15 [or u/17] level, and our provincial team played a warmup against them. Got cleaned bowled by her 1st ball by not playing a shot, my teenage hormones were more focused on this blond beaut running [in my mind it was slow-motion] towards me...

Quite a feeble effort from Pakistan, it has to be said. Unfortunately, the commentary reveals nothing about the pitch or the bowling, so it's hard to determine if they were well and truly tied down by the SA bowlers, or if they just didn't really have the necessary talent to chase that score down.

The ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier brings together 10 sides in their quest to claim four remaining places in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.

The tournament will run from 7-21 February at four Colombo venues and the sides finishing in the top four of the Super Six stage will join defending champion Australia, host England, former winner New Zealand and reigning ICC World Twenty20 champion West Indies in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 from 24 June to 23 July.

Teams competing in the tournament include the bottom four teams from the ICC Women’s Championship India, Pakistan South Africa and hosts Sri Lanka Pakistan while Ireland and Bangladesh qualified for the tournament due to their ODI status. The remaining four places were taken by teams won their respective regional qualifiers Zimbabwe (Africa), Thailand (Asia), Scotland (Europe) and Papua New Guinea (East Asia Pacific).

Each side will play four matches in the first round, following which the top three sides from each group will progress to the Super Six stage, while also carrying forward points they earn against sides which have progressed to the Super Six stage from their group.

The top four sides from the Super Six stage, in which each side will play three matches against teams from the other group, will complete the eight-team line-up for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, while the top two sides will battle out for the title in the 21 February final.

The top four sides from the Super Six stage will not only qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, but they will also secure places in the next edition of the ICC Women’s Championship. There is incentive for the remaining two sides from the Super Six stage, which will secure ODI status for the next four years. As such, there is plenty to play for in Colombo.

That said, all that I have read seems to indicate that South Africa are firm favourites to go through.

Dane van Niekerk 2/35 in 7 overs

Dane was most expensive (which is a relative term), but got 2 wickets. In the end, Pakistan just didn't live up to expectation ... or is it that our ladies are improving. Their warm up series against Bangladesh must have helped.

All in, agreed that it was feeble. Pleased for our lasses that we have a win on the board :)

South Africa ladies keeping their Indian counterparts in check. India Women 205/8 after 50 overs. Not a bad bowling effort, considering India were 122/1 at one stage. Still, a tough chase in store. Here's hoping they can get across the line!
