My opinion is not to get rid of Kallis yet, just move him down the order. We've got much better batsmen now.

Kallis would walk into any international team out there and here we saying "past his sell-by date"

Kallis is just out of form. He will come good. True greats always do.

Nope he's fine IMO. van Wyk should open with Amla, and everyone else moves one down. Ingram should bat where he batted today, and Fap should make way for AB. Other than that I'm pretty happy :) Kallis will come right, he's just returned from injury.

They should also drop Smith.... or try him lower down. He never opens well.

If we win this then they can mess around with the team against Bangladesh.

so your preferred team is:
Van Wyk
Amla
Smith
Kallis
AB
Duminy
Ingrim
Peterson / Botha
Steyn
Morkel
Tahir
The only concern for me with this team is you going to rely heavily on Kallis and Duminy to squeeze 10 overs between them. I am not confident duminy can do this in a pressure situation or crunch match. HE will bowl 1 bad ball an over. That leaves the bulk of the responsibility on Kallis. It also stagnates us a bit because the other 4 bowlers pretty much have to bowl themselves out even if they are going for 6+ runs an over

I can Guarantee you Smith will always open our innings.

Agreed, but only in ODI's. Make him a geniune all-rounder. Let him bat at 4 in tests.

Smith can turn a few as well. He may as well try, it's not like he's contributing much with the bat :D

Kallis needs to bowl more, he's not getting enough overs IMO. He is a genuine allrounder after all, and he can generate lots of swing.

The problem with Fap is he's not been bowling much, like 3 overs max, so what is the point? We may as well give 2 overs to Kallis and 1 to JP.

I think a solution could be that someone else turns their hand for an over or 2 just to give the captain more flexibility in not having to bowl all his bowers out. unfortunately I rather see Duminy bowl than Smith :D He's a pie chucker

Smith probably turns the ball more than Botha...but he is toooooo lazy !!!!!

272 is a good score considering Kallis' bad performance (again). We will win this. Don't see the Irish (half SA) beating us (full SA).

Surely the least on form player for a time now has to be Smith. The opposition can always count on his wicket within the first 5 overs.

Those of u asking for smith and kallis to move down the order don't know any cricket.
Just like our useless selectors who can't figure it out, our team needs balance.
Current side has 5 batsmen who are top order (top 3), then 3 batsmen for 4-7.
Just like in 2003, we replaced jonty with smith and messed up the balance (top 5 were opening batsmen).

What's your solution then? Who goes out for AB and who keeps? Would you risk AB's fitness in making him play as keeper when we do have a specialist, who is clearly not comfortable with the older ball?

Also smith's poor form and low scoring rate is putting a lot of pressure on the rest of the team, ESP amla.
Averaging below 40 in the last few years is not good enough in this new era as 300 is the new 200. So u can't compare gibbs and smith, that's the reason why gibbs was dropped.
