Cricket world cup discussion thread

Can you imagine the pressure on them come Saturday if they lose today?? And this is why it's no fun being the host nation. The psychological burden on these players to perform at home is beyond immense, especially in a country as fanatical about their cricket as India is.

Better keep a generator on the buses so the people don't get confused again. Perhaps a banner or two that glows in the dark stating:

THIS IS NOT THE INDIAN BUS!!!!!!

Except the Indians may put that banner on their bus :D

That in reference to the stoning of the WI team bus after they demolished Bangladesh? I never really read that story! You saying they meant to stone their own team bus? f uuuuck... Just another reason why it sucks to host...

Game over. India win. Yuvraj had better be MotM so I can a few points for my Fantasy IX.

The position in the groups will have a huge impact on the quarters- imagine if SA v Aus in the quarters!

In my opinion it matters not who you play in the world cup, you need to win the games in order to win the world cup, so we meet them in 1/4's or semi's it makes no difference we need to win.

Sure it would be nice to have easy games but world champions don't need easy games to win world cups. They need to win and play positive cricket. Nobody remembers anything but the eventual winner. For smaller team perhaps 1/4's and semi's are good and will be remembered for one of the best in the world anything but winning the world cup will not be remembered.

Ok so Tahir isn't out of the WC :) But he will probably sit out the rest of the group stage.

Imran Tahir, South Africa's Pakistan-born legspinner, has been advised ten days' rest to deal with a fractured left thumb but the selection committee will decide when that period should be. He is definitely not out of the tournament, the team manager Mohammed Moosajee said on Thursday.

South Africa play India on Saturday, and in the ten days between that match and the first quarter-final they play Ireland and Bangladesh.

Tahir sustained the injury - which was not to his bowling hand - while catching England's Jonathan Trott off his own bowling on Sunday. He is South Africa's leading wicket-taker in tournament, with 11 so far.

Sorry i have not been keeping up with group stages but if we lose to india are we guaranteed a quarter final? Could we afford another shock lose to say ireland?

We'll need to win two more games to ensure a place. We might get through with only one more win, but then it would depend on other results. The two games we must not lose are against Ireland and Bangladesh.

Ok but say we get thumped by india but win the remaining two, we are going through? Or will it be tight?

Thought you don't like Pakis?
I don't mind Pakistani people, I just don't like the Pakistan cricket structure (including its corrupt team) and its hardcore fans ;)

Yeah we'll go through then.

Ye, looks suspiciously like 400 is going to be scored. 199/0 33.3 overs

Ja, that looked like a 400 to me. But in overs 34 -40 they slowed down a bit. And the lost allot of wickets in the last 6 overs
