Crime levels declining

Jip, if "we" include you then yes, "we" are not verrrry braaaaight... Different publications
"Beeld | Die Burger | Volksblad | Rapport | City Press | More Partners" - Partner sites...

@phoneJunky - agree on the term "less" in terms of amount maybe, not violence - I'd rather have 1000 petty theft crimes than 2 gruesome murders...

Beeld,.....24.Com, and just about every other publication (exceptfor Independent News and Media and Avusa) in SA are owned by the same company - Naspers.

It means something is wrong in your community or something like that. Even if the murder rate comes down by 5% that will still mean about 43 murders a day, which you would agree with me is no small amount. But if it is decreasing every year, it means something is being done right (what I don't know, but something).

The naysayers will blame number fixing for crime rate decline, while I think there are a few cases of this but they are generally lambasted by oppisition parties in news paper articles.

Yeah, I get what you are saying.

Don't mind my first post, it just annoyed me initially when I read about people patting themselves on the back at what a good job they are doing getting rid of crime, when I was just robbed recently.

But it is a great thing if it is indeed going down

Let's get one thing straight here. We will never eradicate crime - it's endemic to society. Even if the numbers were only 10 murders and 20 robberies a day, somebody still got murdered and robbed.

This weekend just a small area over 3 days: 3 cars stolen, one burglary, one drunk driving accident and thats only what we know about...

Blue Security send out a similar newsletter for Durban and it's surrounds, really interesting reading. 2 Polos were hijacked last week.

Well I agree with one part of the story, it's all about working together with neighbourhood watch, security providers and SAPS. The community has to set it up, the structures are there but you'll see most areas practically ignore their Community Policing Forum and moan about how bad the police and crime are instead.

Wrt crime actually going down, it's a yo-yo. Some areas will go down, others will rise, some will rise at different times. You can only concentrate on your own area to make a difference.
