Crime Statistics

Very rare in which poverty stricken countries? Most poor countries I can think of, has lots of crime. Look no further than South America.
Specifically violent crime - which poverty stricken countries suffer similar levels of violent crime to SA?

I think this forum needs a better class of troll - please may we have one that can spell? Or, is it a fact that the easily brainwashed have learning disabilities?

Like I said, look no further than South America.
Yes I'd agree that South America is also ravaged by violent crime, but they're not such poor countries - just ruled by corrupt officials (there's another similarity to us).

I have spent time in a few countries (China and Indonesia) with high poverty rates where petty crime exists (also lower than SA), but not violent crime.

Then again, with leaders like Jacob Zuma singing "give me my machine gun" what do you expect - the masses follow his example.

This is what I've noticed too. Just after the fall of Communism in the Eastern Europe where unemployment was rampant and the economies in shatters,
the worst that could happen to a foreign tourist was his car got stolen
or he got pickpocketted. Violent crime was very rare.

Statistics are all BS. For instance, when you say for example 1 in every 5 people will get murdered every day, you must take into consideration where this crime happens. In areas like Langa, it is very likely, perhaps even more 1 in every 4. Then you look at areas such as Plattekloof. It's been a while since someone there has been murdered!

Maybe we should now look to the way the Saudi's punish criminals? :)

No more rape if u don't have a penis :)
No more Hijacking if u don't have a hand :P

So who's going to pay disability to about 10 million people sans hands?

Are you fckn high? That is the very reason for crime. People who cannot afford to sustain themselves and families are forced into lives of crime in order to survive. You lack a very rudimentary level of logic

If you cannot sustain yourself or your family,is it justifiable to go and rape a woman in front of her family, sons and daughters, is it justifiable to dismember a senior citizen or any one for that matter?

I'm proud to be high. Poverty does not justify violent crime...

News update

Quote from IOL, Nqakula Report

Annual crime statistics showed the number of murders fell 4,7 percent between April 1 last year and March 31 this year, with 18 487 murders reported in the country. The rates remain among the worst in the world.

Nqakula said more than 1.2 million criminals were arrested during this period.

"Of course crime levels are high and we are trying to deal with that," he said.

Critics say corruption and other flaws in the justice system have allowed many criminals to evade prosecution, with cases often being thrown out of court because of lack of evidence and poor investigative procedures.

South Africa has set an annual target of reducing crime by 7 percent to 10 percent and is aiming for a complete overhaul of its justice system, Nqakula said.

Opposition parties and business leaders say that if left unchecked, high levels of crime could deter tourism and foreign investment and derail South Africa's chances of hosting a successful World Cup

No of course it's not justifiable, but you have to look at reality here. We don't live in an ideal world.
