Crime stats 2006

Have you collected data for all areas across the country?

If my neighbours and local businesses say they're experiencing less crime are they lying?

I don't keep detailed records for my area, the province or the country so I cannot effectively dispute the police records. The police records for my local area show some types of crimes down, other types up.

Well in my area it is rising, just check the local newspaper and talk to the neighbors. My house was ransacked in December, the Police came out for a statement, nothing since then. I'll take Police stats with a pinch of salt.

According to the newspaper the entire planet is engulfed in disaster. Must be the end times I've heard so much about.

Trusting this government when it comes to crime stats would be like trusting the Iraqi information minister during the final days of the invasion.
So if they said that crime was going up it would really be coming down?

Observation, study, discussions with experts.

Oh, I'm sorry, what exactly do you think happens to people who are systematically brutalised?

I suppose that, given their brutalised background, one could not in any way have hoped that the ANC would have understood that this would be a problem and planned properly for its control? There are many things the ANC govt could have done ( and could still do if they had the will ) to minimise and limit the growth in crime that has come with their accession to power.

Your argument is the same as "Oh, you can't blame him for murder because he had an unhappy childhood" - not an argument that I can agree with.

You can explain the contributing factors and blame the criminal committing the crime. There is a difference between explaining the contributing factors and excusing the actions of the perpetrators.

Although the government was left with a monumental mess to repair they cannot be excused for not making a greater effort, but they would not be alone in underestimating the magnitude of the task.

Back on the statistics. If you think those for your area are wrong, then find some alternatives or compile your own.

Yeah there are steps the ANC govt could have taken to address the crime.

How is it the same?

Edit: + what noxibox said ;p

How is Apartheid to blame for the fact that the apparatus that enforces safety and security is now broken?
