I think an even bigger problem with the system is that people living in the most crime affected areas are the least likely to have internet access.

All it will really show is where crime is most likely to affect the middle class and relatively tech savvy.

I see the same problem. It will serve to support the perception that only certain groups are targets of crime.

Police statistics are problematic the world over.

The police in the UK release very regular accurate stats (weekly). They also do something when they realise the incidents are too high or unusual.

I'm not impressed with the site. They've taken the e-blockwatch idea and mangled it. You cant easily browse crimes, which is what would be the most interesting feature. They want you name, address and telephone number, which is a bit much for an internet service.

I think thats the only way to really improve the quality and authenticity of the information.

I would rather have a few false posts about crimes that DID NOT happen skewing the results, than the SAPS / ANC approach of under reporting.
