I am sick of people saying this, all you ever hear is white people complaining
"they blame us for Apartheid, but we never implemented it, the govt did" the point is you stood by and allowed it to happen, and reaped the benefits of it, silence is consent - while at the same time there were many white people who gave up the riches they could accrue to stand up for the cause people like

Beyers Naude
Joe Slovo
Ruth First
Ds Nico Smith

and countless others

@ Jonty & Pupa - You can tell me about your involvement without being specific, in any case we are just debating here, I had no intention of using the info for anything else beside understanding Jonty's posts

Or do I have to assume that you are a criminal that's how you know what is happening

@ AJAK - ag shame, is that the best you can do, who's the moron now

The celebrated Afrikaans author André Brink -- due to be bestowed a National Order on Wednesday -- has castigated the government over its response to crime.

Beeld newspaper reported that he had labelled Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula a "monster" who "betrayed the legacy of [former president] Nelson Mandela".

LoL is that the new "in" word; "Monster" befit the description. will use it fluently in future towards all the "monsters" out there! Recognize yourselves? If not read the link referring to Andre' P Brink. Another "racist" that left the country I presume for no reason at all. must say this, to rather live with the French with their ways and attitudes as opposed to Africans says a lot in my book. MAYBE IT WOULD NOT BE SO BAD TO LIVE WITH THE AUSSIES OR BRITS AFTER ALL!!

Do you realise that the majority of whites on this forum (including myself) were still children during apartheid, and weren't even able to vote until the ANC was already in power? Today's white South Africans are paying in many ways (some with their lives even, but the rest for example are contributing nearly R70billion/year to fund welfare for previously disadvantaged households, amongst other things) to try to repair the problems cause by apartheid, so stop this racist flaming/blaming of people who mostly weren't even in a position to "consent" and who mostly now are trying their level best to build a decent 'free democracy' under difficult circumstances.

And the GVT does not do a lot to help them, so how does that play then. They must offer themselves for nothing! So preach to Mbeki then; and let them change their attitude towards these you refer to as needed in the country. Make them feel they are wanted and part of it all!

Robbery up 43% in our area.

I attended the Community Police Forum this month and the Station Commander gave us statistics for the crime in our area.
Most percentages were up a little or the same as the last year in review, but Robbery and the 3 different versions of Robbery they have listed was up a staggering 43%!!
Nobody can ignore those statistics.

The Police in our area popped into our business today on a call-out from our neighbour who used us as a reference as he apparently was robbed again for the umpteenth time. Not sure what is going on there?
The Police were dressed like they were ready for WWIII.
Nice guys and friendly, but where in the past did the Bobby on the Beat have to wear Kevlar?

Nqakula, a very sick puppy

Crime spiked this year – Nqakula
However, a detailed breakdown would only be published next year, he said.

National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi explained that including these statistics would distort those for the financial year.
The SA Police Service's firearm control registers are not properly maintained, and close to 2 300 firearms were either lost by or stolen from police officers over the past year, according to an Auditor-General report released on Wednesday.

This is more than three times the number stolen or lost the year before.

Charming. Incidentally, here's another conspiracy theory, for those talking about the .gov not doing anything for the people: the .gov cannot politically afford to do more for it's previously disadvantaged citizens. From a political point of view, the ANC's major attraction is their role in the struggle against the opression of the Apartheid era. Now, that's all well and good, but the struggle's over, isn't it? Except that it isn't, at least for the average person living in squalor, who keeps hearing their beloved saviours blame the people's conditions on the 'legacy of Apartheid'.

The spectre of Apartheid is the only card that the ANC has that keeps it from fragmenting. The ANC has served it's purpose, but refuses to disappear, and is not prepared to make life better for the people. They simply do not know what they are doing, and are trying to hold on using the struggle mythology.

And they have the temerity to suggest that firearms owners should relicense every single firearm in the country, when they can't even keep track of their own? They're simply not up to the job.
