Criminal injustices I've endured...

Car jacked x 2 (two different cities)
Home invasion x 1
Petty theft out of garden x 2
Attempted house burglary x 2

Total uninsured loss = R300,000!! (Vehicles were insured)

Car accidents in Durban usually end up with you losing everything in the car.... engines, batteries, wheels etc etc... so they could be classed.

The strange thing is that mine happened in Bloem (stole car radio out of the car), and none since moving to JHB, AND I drove a Velociti. Someone must be looking after me. :)

I was lucky like that too. I really took chances in the three years in JHB - stopped at Blairgowrie spar day after day without taking the radio's face off, leaving the windows and inch or two open, often with lots computer stuff on the back seat. Also drove a white CitiGolf, had no alarm and no gear/steering lock.

That said, in the 15 years before that I endured the following:

9x bicycles stolen
1x car stolen (3 months old)
9x muggings at gunpoint in JHB (a few accompanied by assault)
1x attempted mugging in JHB (broke the guy's arm)
1x mugging at gunpoing in Durban
1x mugging at knifepoint in Cape Town
1x motor bike stolen (thief crashed it and died) (pity, it was a mint 70s Yamaha)
several break-ins, laying claim to just about everything valuable.
1x ATM card lifted (you know the helpfull fella at the ATM - I told him to get lost. Somehow he managed to swap the card!)
On last month's trip to S.A. my credit card details got lifted somewhere. Thankfully my bank figured it out and stopped the card.
1x car disappeared after an "AA approved" tow-truck vulture towed it away. Sadly the market value was low (it was my first, a '79 model) and the insurance company wrote it off. Wasn't worth the money to try to get it back. Bastards...
Does the scandalous service at Fournos Bakery at the ORT airport count as a crime?

Now let's see ...
6 x bicycles stolen over the years.(all got away)
7 x burglaries (used to live in Durban :D)
1 x pocket picking (never felt a thing)
3 x muggings (none successful :D)
1 x theft person & assault (by street trader - unsuccessful)
1 x arsonist (arrested by self)
1 x attempted burglar (arrested by self now a fugitive)
2 x assault (arrested by self)
1 x attempted theft of wallet (let off by self)
1 x shoplifting (clean getaway)
4 x tresspassing (let go)
1 x fraud (still deciding what to (;-) else) to do to them)

1996, burglary (by two white teenagers), ex-wife's car stolen after burglary and crashed. Everything recovered.

Umm...that's it...

I suppose I've been lucky. Had a minor break-in a few years back and the occasional clown lurking around in the garden. I'm very careful security-wise though. Now I've got a hardcore compound bow. Next clown in the garden is target practice.:D

That being said, they raided my neighbors house with 4x AK47. But that was before the area was closed off.:p

I would not buy a house now without it being in a closed-off area. Even if that means paying 20% premium and monthly contributions.

Holy crap,I'm must be F*****g lucky.

6x Burgled (not at home)
2x car stolen
1x attempted mugging at knife point (broke his wrist + shoulder) :)

Thats it. Hope the s**t never happens again !!

Wow...

My crime experience.

1x wallet stolen (my fault)
1x car broken into (not my car but bag stolen but recovered)

For the people who have had the experience of crime to a ridiculous portion all i can say is you must be retarded, blind and deaf and make an incredibly easy target... cuz seriously... to be hijacked more then 3 times... or the same item stolen more then 4 times - well geez... i dunno thats just stupid.

Um, a pair of running shoes when I was 11, stolen from my kit bag in class.
A walkman taken from my blazer when I was 15.
R2400 through stupidity while using BidorBuy when I was 19 (drove to Pretoria to beat some sense into the fool, only to find his terrified wife saying we were the 3rd group of people there that day... tried a couple of lawyers letters but gave up when I had greater problems to deal with).
An attempted mugging at knifepoint. Two really skinny dudes half my height stopped me, and told me this was a robbery while one tried to pull a long bread knife out his pants. I grabbed hold of the hand with the knife, and one hand of the other dude, and we stood swaying around for 30 seconds or so, before they broke free and sprinted off.
Nothing in the 5 years since. (actually one attempted mugging by two very drunk guys that I just walked away from)
I've lived in and around Hillbrow my whole life... if you don't flaunt your wealth, and use a little caution, you won't get targeted...

Um....me personaly:

1. Never had my car stolen.
2. Never had a house braking.
3. Never had a bicycle stolen.
4. No Fraud theft.
5. Never been hijacked or any other major incident.
6. Had a couple of car accidents, one car was written off, but that was mother natures doing.

So all in all pretty lucky.

Only have 1 incident:

1] Robbers almost stole our car ... loaded the goods from the flat they had robbed in our centre but the cops showed up before they got away with the goods. We were a bit peeved because the insured value was way more than we could get as a trade-in :D.

But having said that it was great of cops to catch these guys ... they were builders that had done work on the complex.

Tons of petty crimes though ...

A certain parking attendant not giving change when should (I just ignore it, see it as charity ... sometimes I do it on purpose just to check if the guy has had a change in conscience but so far he's still pocketing my 1 buck extra each time :D)

Also had one of those car washers rip me off, charged me R15-00 more but couldn't be bothered to argue. Somehow feel it was my fault (crazy SA logic I know) because it was R35 and I only had a R50 note so she immediately upped the price to R45 and then didn't have change

Where do you live - I want to move there.

Weltevreden Park, in a secure complex. The burglary was in Fairlands though.

I'm relatively paranoid though, especially on the road. doors always locked, always alert.
