Unfortunately petty theft largely goes unreported though. But do a check all the same just to be on the safe side.

And make a copy of the ID as well.

Better remedy that. News gets out, even if not intentionally, could be on the way home. "The woman I work for has so much around, I wish I was that rich". People close by can over hear.

That leads to break ins. I know victims of this exact thing (not pleasant). Even if your remedy is to say that you have "stopped" keeping cash on the premises...
