Yes, I know I can google it, but I don't feel like using google! haha.

Crossfire related question is as follows;

Do the cards have to be exactly the same or not?

I obviously want to play with Crossfire, and have a 4870, but the 4870 is rather expensive, so would I need to get another card exactly the same as my current card or could I get any ATI card that supports Crossfire?

I figured (by now at least) becuase I remember when it first came out (remember, I'm a NVidia boy) people were raving about it, however, the downfall was, if you bought a expensive card, you had to have 2 for crossfire to work.

I figured by now that had to change.

Here you lazy bugger, I'll google for you! ha ha ;)

I found this compatibility chart :

Lol, I'm actually considering it.

2x4850's just for fun. It will have to wait a while though until after my SAS drive setup;)

This is the card I'll get, if I do go this route:

Asus EAH4830/HTDP/512MD3 , HD4830 chipset , support crossfire-X , built-in HDMi codec+7.1 audio , support DirectX 10.1 , 1080p HDCP Compliant , pci-e 2.0 x16 , 512mb 256bit 4 channel DDR3 , 640 stream processors ( pixel shader engine + vertex pipelines ) , core/memory : 575/2000mhz , dual dvi ( with dvi to d-sub converter ) , HDTV+HDMi tv-out

It's about R1700 incl. VAT.

I won't do it, not anytime soon at least.

But at least I know something I didn't know 30 minutes ago :)

Rather gor for this for 1800 vat included.

Sapphire 21133-00-40R , HD4870 chipset , HDMi ready , support crossfire-X , built-in HDMi codec+7.1 audio , support DirectX 10.1 , 1080p HDCP Compliant , pci-e 2.0 x16 , 512mb 256bit 4 channel DDR5 , 800 stream processors ( pixel shader engine + vertex pipelines ) , core/memory : 750/3600mhz , dual dvi ( with 2 x dvi to d-sub + 1 x dvi to HDMi converter ) , HDTV+HDMi tv-out - full retail pack

That's expensive for a 4830 isn't it? You can get a 4850 for R1,195.

It's probably because it's "ASUS" that I'm paying a bit more... let's just say it - "quite a bit more" :)

I'm not a fan of Sapphire at all.

Nothing wrong with Sapphire bud.
