Crossfire question

I don't like to use dodgy makes.

Sapphire is a dodgy make.

Asus is good stuff, so is XFX.

I suppose the speech about "everything is manufactured in the same factory and only branded with the companies own stickers etc etc afterwards" is beyond you then:eek:

Just so you know, I'm pretty sure the 4870 range is similar to the 8800 range where the cards are all the same, but the only thing that makes them different is the sticker on them.

But doesent crossfire scale down your more powerfull card to the lower card ?

Pretty much.

I'm not a brand freak, but I have the brands I trust.

XFX, Intel, Nvidia, Logitech (to name a few) are the ones I buy if I buy anything.

ATI being something new I'm branching into.

Isn't that reference cards only that are only sold in the 1st 6 months after the product is brought to market.

Then the Toxic/SSC/OC's cards come out with the companies own PCB's not NVidia/ATI?

I thought the asus/sapphire/xfx etc only bought the GFX chips.

From what I understand.

Chipsets are sold from ATI/NVidia to say, XFX.

XFX will take the chipset, and choose what features to enable etc (cost up, or cost down)

My understanding was always that the reference cards with the chips come out of one factory but the companies like XFX etc can then add ram, OC the card and add better cooling solutions and then sell them as such. I could be wrong but AFAIK that was the only place where the cards differed as such. Could be wrong though. Maybe some more knowledgeable could confirm/disprove this....
