I recently upgraded my car and now have the luxury of cruise control. Originally I doubted its purpose but I actually use it daily on my commute (I live 50km from work and travel mostly a national road on a my commute).

This got me wondering how many people out there also use it?

Use it as much as possible in the car and a must have for the next car is adaptive cruise. On the bike I'm still a pleb without cruise (and I don't like the mechanical add on systems) :p But the newer bikes have electronic cruise so one day when I'm all grown up I'll get that too :D

As soon as I hit the open road or highway it goes on.

Love it and will never get a car without it again.

I won't buy a car without it again.

It's redundant in traffic/town driving, but on the open road it's an absolute joy to use. You can set it to the speed you want and forget about it. If that speed is below what traffic cops can fine you for, then you don't have to stress. I usually take the GPS speed and not the odo speed.

Yep, every day. When my car was in the shop , the loaner didnt have cruise control, was such a pain.

I use mine a lot, but when there's a bit of traffic, I find the buttons on the steering wheel a pain to use. I preferred the system that my old merc had where it was a stalk and you just pulled it to resume.

I do use it a lot, but unfortunately due to idiots driving erratically and morons driving 80 in the fast lane, it can often become an exercise in frustration.

The most frustrating thing about cruise control is the people who won't use it.

Nothing grinds my gears more than hitting the open road and then getting stuck (and having to activate/deactivate) behind a guy with his ML63 AMG who decides at random intervals to drive 110km/h and then suddenly 150km/h and then back to 100km/h again.

Just hit the SET button dammit!

I use it daily - it is convenient, and it keeps me within the speed limit (semi-enforced self-control).

An add-on to the OP's question:
How many times have you caught yourself putting your feet somewhere confortable, but unsafe? Examples: crossing your feet, or hooking your right foot behind your left, or even behind the pedals (stretching your legs)? I've caught myself a couple of times, and I know that my time to get to the brake in case of emergency will be so much longer. So I'm making a conscious effort now to keep my feet ready to go to the pedals should it be necessary.

I use it, but it's most effective use was about 8 years ago, got pulled off outside DBN en route to CPT after the A1 GP for speeding.

Told the officer that the car is about a month old, and I had set the cruise control on 120km/h. With absolute horror, i asked "was I doing over 120km/h? I need to take this piece of shirt back to the dealer, it clearly doesnt work, waste of money piece of crap!!!"

He waved me on my merry way after that.

Use it all the time. Especially handy if you drive an automatic. Best invention ever :D

Almost never.
Most of my commute is on Rivonia road so not during the week.
Even on a trip between PTA and JHB I don't - find you're so often braking or slowing down it becomes more of a schlep than convenience.
Sure when driving down to Durbs I'll use it. But it's not a deal breaker when looking at a car (although almost all cars these days have it.)
Now adaptive cruise control - that I would use all the time.

All the time. It's a mandatory feature of any car I'll ever buy again. Don't have it on my bike though.

I use mine a lot, but when there's a bit of traffic, I find the buttons on the steering wheel a pain to use. I preferred the system that my old merc had where it was a stalk and you just pulled it to resume.

My SsangYong still uses that stalk (probably also Merc derived like almost everything else on that car) :D

On highway straights with traffic cameras? Yes
