Hi all, I have a Jetta 4, 2002 model. I really want cruise control for it. So I was told, all I need is the indicator arm, the one with the cruise control switches built into it. Then a friend will do the rest. But that damn thing cost R1000!!!!. Does anyone know a better option, or where I can get it cheaper? I tried scrapyards here in Benoni, but they dont have that.

Just the indicator arm is not all you'll need.

I installed the Rostra (electric actuator ) cruise control with the wireless steering wheel mount switch.

Spedo-O-Cruise and AutoCruise are some of the local brands.

Model range

AutoCruise Vacuum- for manual vehicles with a strong vacuum and light throttle action.

AutoCruise Electric- For all vehicles but specifically for automatic vehicles, vehicles with poor vacuum or a heavy throttle action and vehicles with an electronic throttle control. (Drive by wire)

AutoCruise By Wire- The latest fully electronic vehicle specific cruise control is now available for certain drive by wire vehicles.

AutoCruise Original- Factory type plug and drive cruise controls for certain VW and Audi drive by wire models.

A complete system will be more than R1000

I suppose this is not the genuine VW cruise control? I was told by many who did this that all I need is the indicator arm with it's wires.

I don't know what brand of cruise control VW use, but it could well be one of the local brands.
If your car is the latest drive by wire accelerator, then possibly all it needs is the indicator arm, but if not, it will need an actuator to manipulate the throttle, and a controller.
If all the car needs is some minor part to give it full cruise control, I'd expect them to install this in the factory considering it will be a useful spec for selling that model.

My car is the drive-by-wire type, and I bought the kit today. It's just the indicator arm, with the cruise control built into it. So I guess I'm lucky.

What did you pay? Where did you buy? Is it working?

Sorry for all the questions but I was wondering.... :D
