Shame, I have a buddy supposed to be leaving for a cruise up to Durbs from Cape Town on the Musica. They've been told to come back again tomorrow since the Musica can't dock. Have to wonder what happens to all those connecting flights, accommodation plans, etc. Must be chaos. Does MSC provide any compensation?

The ship takes 2500 passengers so potentially there'll be quite a few people needing accommodation unexpectedly tonight since they can't board - assuming not everyone travelling is from Cape Town.

They issued a statement last night that passengers from outside CapeTown must book accomodation & submit claims to hollard travel insurance for a refund. Those in CapeTown must stay home.

Musica still unable to dock this morning. A real bummer for everyone involved. Wonder if they have sufficient supplies on board. Potentially thousands of people will now be needing unplanned flights out of Cape Town as they either abandon plans to cruise or dock having missed their flights. Not to mention accommodation plans. Must be chaos all round.

Just spoke to the guys in the office who went on the Portuguese island route in December. They rate don't bother with the vouchers . Basically for eg you will end up with just soft drink or beer vouchers so you are limited. Price is not that bad on the boat either(according to them).

Edit: Basically you will end up with vouchers you will not even use and can't get a refund .

The price and vouchers depends entirely on regions (where laws apply) and the cruise line company. It is best to check up with every cruise line package.

My take would be if your are planning on drinking alcoholic drinks, get the vouchers.

Brazil cruise is lekka, only downside is that 90% of the announcements onboard the cruiseship are in portugese - so was abit worried that I might miss importnat info...But, had fun nonetheless!

yes, your cruise might not leave the harbour until the last day like ours did.......then you need EXTRA drinks vouchers....everybody made the most of the meals and the party though.......and no-one got seasick

A slightly better view from the balcony perhaps. Also, perhaps shorter stair climbs to the levels you expect to visit most. Note that the higher up you get the more movement of the ship you will feel, although with just 2 decks difference, the effect will be negligible.
