They recon they will be able to get Crysis visuals out of the 360. The PS3 yes, but not the 360. Then again, why should that bother me. My PC will be able to.

Problem is it will be like the old crysis engine. Its amazing, simply amazing but half the population cant play it because it requires a beast of a PC for it to look that amazing. :(

I wonder if they will make the same mistake again. I'm no console expert, but I think:

CryEngine 2 + Optimisations + dumbed down for consoles = CryEngine 3

id's Rage engine looks quite good and it runs on PC (Windows and knowing id, they'll probably have a Linux version, too), Mac, PS3 and 360. I think that's the same thing Crytek is going for here.

I think 1/2 the population won't care about crysis let alone wanna play it ;).

But so more pressing matters... I hope they make the visuals better, but patch up the game and make CryENGINE more optimized and less demanding... i mean, the last engine was great, but it demanded way to much from hardware and it made it a living hell for people with the average pc...

Well, say what you want, but if you have the hardware to run a Cry game, then there is nothing (FPS) that comes close to it in terms of visuals and gameplay. I hope they just put more effort into storyline with their next titles.

Yeah, but they seem to have confused ground breaking and money making... it's all good and well making a game that is the best thing since trousers, but if the game runs smoothly on 1/20 pc's, then they not going to make much dough and possibly piss off a few people...

Problem with your argument is that your are only thinking short term. They THE best engine as far as graphix is concerned at the moment. They have just enhanced that engine to work for consoles as well. Believe me, they still have a couple of years to milk the technology. ;)

Is Rage engine OpenGL out of interest?

I have to say Crysis Warhead played fantastically well on my PC which isn't anything super great - e7200, 4850. I think they have done a lot of optimisation already on the cryengine for lower end PCs. There was a mod I saw recently that looked incredible running on CryEngine. That convinced me that it's a very powerful development platform. You would have no idea that it was the same engine from looking at the videos.
