Ok so if I get your private key then the ledger is pointless?

yes, so your seed phrase... those 20 odd words, those words are all mathematically connected to your keys/wallet <-- this is why it makes it impossible to crack. To guess 20+ correct words is mathematically impossible.

If someone has those 20+ words, they can just buy another cold wallet and type in those words and import your entire wallet, they become a mirror of you.. so you BOTH have access to your wallet, its a mirror (like logging into internet banking from two different computers) so whoever moves your crypto first (which they will) is the winner.

Hence why you ALWAYS keep your seed phrase in a safe place, hard copy only <-- printed out and kept in a safe as an example, not on a PC
