Cryptocurrency Mining

Could I get a translation into English please , not too familiar with some of those terms you've used :p

No probs:
BTC - Bitcoin
ASIC - Application Specific Integrated Chip - Basically means it is purpose made to mine a specific algorithm.
S7/S9 - Antminer ASIC Miners S9 being the latest BTC mining big boy. Does a few TH/s (Tera Hashes per Second).
My USB miners mine at around 30 Giga hashes per second.

Anyone have a mining rig running off battery + solar?
I'm thinking of this.
I have no illusions of it being able to run full time without Eskom, but I'd like to cut Eskom down to maybe 25% of the day max.

I have a similar plan, once I get money to buy some proper equipment. Looking at a grid-tied system similar to this... (sorry, I know I posted this before but this is my goal)

That wind turbine looks like a cool idea, any idea how much power it generates?

Probably depends on the gearing/dynamo it is connected to. Would work in windy places like Cape Town and Saxonwold :D

I'm in Cape Town so this will be perfect lol, Summer gets very windy around here.

Any sources for Antminers in SA? How do the ASICs compare with a DIY rig using graphics cards?

I have discovered www.bitmart.co.za and spoke to the owner a while ago. Friendly chap.

As far as my limited understanding goes, they are worlds apart. The ASICs took over on BTC mining and basically pushed GPU mining out of the picture, better miners, higher difficulty. It mines faster than any current GPU can, but it is limited to an algorithm.

These are decent, I've ordered 2, and should be arriving in July. I find bitmart prices insanely high, you can also check Aliexpress if you do want to get into asics, even they have cheaper deals than bitmart sometimes, but for a longer term solution I would say GPU rigs all the way, most pc hardware these days have a 3 year warranty and I don't think asics will have that kind of lifespan, the reason I am getting these L3+ miners is because their ROI is around 30 days, so even if it only lasts a year I would have made a decent sum of money to then get GPU rigs setup for the longer term.

No resell value and no new coin wil be made with the flaw.

GPU mining is the future.

Good feedback guys, thanks! I was thinking about the hardware aspect. A nice small package is great but I'm familiar with PC hardware and can resolve issues myself mostly. If only RX 480s weren't like hens teeth right now lol. So 4Gb cards or 8Gb? Does it matter?

So after the earlier post about dual-mining, I tried it (against my better judgement, on nanopool's Eth and SC pool) using Claymore, and as far as my setup is concerned, it's definitely not as efficient as mining a single coin. Will let it run a little while longer to see if it sorts itself and become more comparable, but my initial thought is not.

Edit: Just corrected the typos. Autocorrect slaughtered it!!

Cool, thanks for sharing that bit of info. Nicehash is awesome btw.

Tested the withdrawal process of my miners from pool through to bank account yesterday... Result is I'll be going out for dinner next week ;):D

Second 1050 in. Immediate profitability between $3 to $5 per day now (2x1050 + CPU). Power consumption about 60W per card (overclocked).

Lol, them ninja edits :p I was about to ask how the blue blazes are you getting that return per card!

It took 2-3 days in my case for the money to show up (Luno -> Nedbank)
