Crysis doesn't rape my machine

I used to play Crysis at 1024x768 with medium settings no AA. Frame rates were good, slightly laggy at certain places when I'm surrounded by 8 people all firing at aliens/other people/me all at once and the last part of the game was also a bit laggy.

Anyway, so I recently bought my new HP 22" lcd. The game still played fine and the monitor adjusts to 1024, but as a joke I turned the resolution all the way up (left everything at medium) to 1680x1050. Not only did I not lose FPS, but the game seemed slicker and faster..

Am I drunk, or is my 8600 GT (512mb DDR2) actually starting to pull its own weight?

Well, the extra memory on the graphics card itself will help improve the overall FPS at higher frame rates, but it shouldn't really be any higher at 1680x1050 than at 1024x768...

lol very similar speccs to my machine, might actually give crysis a try now that I dont think it will make my system crash and burn^^

I think the fact that I can actually see proper detail now is whats making the game look slicker. I went crazy last night and played it at high and very high..which uhm..at that resolution turns it into very pretty slides of North Korean soldiers on an island...
