Crysis won't let me use AA

oh yes, even 2x. my 8800gt struggles with AA. if you think your card can handle more than the current settings, rather try upping the resolution. AA is extremely intensive

/sort of derail :o

what visual impact will not having AA make anyway? I heard it only makes a little improvement compared to the strain the card takes?

AA smooths the edges of an image so it doesn't appear pixelated. kinda useless at high resolutions.

Ta bru .... so if I'm playing at 1680X1050, AA is a moot point right?

Is this Crysis or Warhead/Wars. The old Crysis did not allow you to use AA without having Shaders to High detail, in which case a X850 would start steaming anyway.

I run a 8800GT on a 1650X1050 resolution. AA is something I never have on.

dude are you serious. AA is like really important if you dont want to be hurt by bad graphics.

Im running full anti aliasing on 1680*1050 and its fine, did drop the textures a little bit (only got medium spec pc), but rather that than jagged edges.

Full AA on that resolution with a medium spec PC? I find that hard to believe, unless you've dropped alot of other settings to Low.

Anyway, lets not get into that. I set everything medium and no AA because I play online MP. More fps can only help you on those massive maps.

Yeah I agree. Lots of people with real top-end machines can't manage this

Nope I can't.
I can run at 1280x768 with 2x AA or 1440x900 with no AA, all High. I prefer the higher res tho.
Some levels are more intensive than other - like the last level, I have to drop my settings cos there's water & rain & explosions all over... Hectic stuff.

What I did discover is that my ram was bottle-necking my performance... Only had 2GB and now that I've upgraded, I can turn a lot of my settings higher. Couldn't do better than 1280x768, no AA with the 2GB

If you can play Crysis, you can play anything ;)

Upgrading RAm wont give you any AA benefit. I'm running:

Intel E8400;
Asus P5K-Deluxe;
XFX 8800GT XXX
4GB DDR2;
Vista64

and AA is still a no go for me at 1650x1050. (I dont like any lag/shudder etc in my gaming)

I've just upgraded from 1GB to 2GB. It still won't let me put AA on, but it's fine.

On a similar note, how are the following games compared to Crysis, graphics intensity wise: Far Cry 2 and Vegas 2. i.e. If I can play Crysis, will I be able to play these?

I haven't played either but from the reviews, Far Cry 2 is supposed to be as intensive as Crysis.

CorneN is right, if your rig can handle Crysis, it can handle just about anything
