Has someone on the CW accounts done a pathping yet? Would be interesting to see if there is packet loss and how much it is.

Pretty shagged right now due to known issues with international transit - hence the temporary IS accounts for early adopters.

I took a 2meg account from CW, even though I have a 4meg line speed. Reason being, I have a 4meg capped account that I use to Youtube during the the day.

Does CW have the tools to limit my account to a 2meg yet or will I be defaulted to a 4meg?

Will CW have options for VDSL at the start of the launch it will these be added in at a later time?

HUH??
That makes no sense.
Why would you need 2 accounts?
The CW account will be fine during the day, cancel the capped account or reduce the cap.

Honestly, we're still finalising pricing for VDSL as we're not 100% happy with our current price points. We however do not want to exclude this market at launch. Obviously our capped products will work perfectly on VDSL circuits, but there is an uncapped model that we're looking to adopt as well.

Our accounts are not like some other ISP accounts that punish you during the day, especially not with YouTube. Any YouTube videos with buffering issues are in all likelihood not very popular videos that haven't been cached locally, and are subject to the temporary international link issue. But others will attest to the fact that YouTube for example is perfect during the day.

Our system does automatically upgrade slower speeds (only for these accounts for now) to match their Telkom line speed. It is the way the system was built on our upstream provider's side, but we are working on resolving this too.

1080p vids don't run too well on a 2meg line....it's just about ok on a 4meg...

Yep, understand that. The reason I have the capped account is for 1080p vids that struggle on a 2meg line.

Do you think you will have it resolved by 1 July? Im only due to go live then..

We're seeing between 4% and 6% packet loss on the international link because of the current problem, so shaping is being applied to some protocols on occasion to preserve the quality of the link for now.

It should also be pointed out that the shaping policy relating to usage-based shaping is a temporary shaping method, and will change once we're happy that the p2p/nntp shaping only method is working 100%. Google recently changing to encrypted traffic caused some issues and has resulted in this shaping having to be coded again, as well as a few other minor issues that we're not happy with. So the 50% of 10Mb usage resulting in shaping will be lifted as well. So it only gets better and better.

I can relate with Afriman right about now on this one. We're always subjected to a third party to implement this correctly and on time. The plan fro the outset was for full capacity from 1 July, and they have promised to resolve the link issue by then too. So we're waiting with as much baited breath as you.

I can relay the information they have sent us, which boils down to 1 July everything being working 100%, and all accounts returning to the exceptional standard we've set.

So why not go for the 4meg account?

Current ISP is OW, which is dead during the day. Capped account (20GB) is needed. I hope that I will not need the capped account when moving over to CW, but for now I would like to stick with the 2meg+capped package until I experience CW's performance.

Noted..however you won't have the functionality to limit account speeds regardless of line speeds just yet? Or is that included in the above statement?

Anybody please?

We only shape p2p. Currently we have a temporary shaping method in place that will shape p2p and nntp based on usage and time. Day-time high usage of a 10Mb account for example will result in heavier shaping on p2p and nntp than high usage of the account after-hours. Usage is calculated on a 10 day rolling window. Same applies to 4Mb customers. 2Mb customers are shaped if they fall within the top 20% of usage. 4Mb and 10Mb if they fall within the top 50% of usage for their line speed. The degree of shaping is variable.

As posted above, once we are happy with the new shaper, we will revert to p2p shaping only being applied during the day.

By default, both of these shaping methods only shape p2p and nntp.

Thank you! Sounds good! If Afrihost doesn't sort out their packet loss issues I will be jumping ship.

Connection is very intermittent at the moment. Works for 20 seconds, dead for twenty seconds, rinse, repeat.
