Chaps, I am wanting/needing to implement some sort of web protection for my kids at home. I have a 7 year old that is IT verskrik and an 11y/o who is always chatting to her friends via all the social networking apps.

I would like to limit their access to certain times of the day plus help protect them from accidentally access some not so good things.

I would like to do it via the MAC address of their devices. If they use my ipad, I or my wife is always with them.

I know that I can set up an old PC and install the necessary, but was hoping for an all in one solution like the Microtik.

Is that possible??

It can be done on the TP Link. I think I have the W8970, but I'm sure all of the others in that model range can do it.

You will probably able to do it on the Mikrotik's as well, but unless you have some experience with the Mikrotik, the TP Link would be easier and can be done by anyone in 30 seconds.

Dunno. Can wifi be asymmetric in terms of data rate?

That 1000mw counts more towards the broadcast strength I think aka distance. Normal wifi devices should have no problem connecting, you can also set the wifi strength to 17 (setting in mikrotik that the wifi does not exceed 100mw) On the wug we may not go over 100Mw and we do 40km connections, I think that 1000Mw will be able to fry a chicken though lol.

Gonna rig it to a directional antenna and point it at the fkn pug next door that doesn't stop barking and trying to pick a fight with my wolf.

/not entirely serious.... or am i?

Depends, is microwaved pug meat any good?

Microwaved pug meat doesn't bark. In that respect, it's totally fcking awesome.

/edit to add - it may in fact be a boston terrier. Same rules apply.

Will check it out thanks

Just migrate your line over. Hop on to live chat, ask for the port reset, wait for the new world record time, and be done with call centre queues. :D

I contacted support a good few weeks + back and am still waiting for my line to be ported to you guys.

Lendl emailed me on 19 June stating that migration could take between 2 days and two weeks.

Hmm, if I remember who I'm talking to (matching forum names up with real names is a serious test of memory) yours was already ported over, invoiced as such, and notice of successful migration sent.

Otherwise I have the wrong person and you'll need to PM me or mail support.

Either way, PM me or mail support - or just talk to live support. :D

EDIT: we're doing some upgrades so our internal systems are down at the moment, so best to drop a mail to support for them to confirm.

I think the support desk guys need a calendar, mail received this morning referring to yesterday, 21st of August ;)
