Eish, wish I had bought the Mikrotik when I was in the market. I was advised by a company rep to rather buy the TP-Link if I did not have any experience with Mikrotiks before ito of ease of setup.

I would recommend the TP - Link to anyone. I think it works well.

I love to tinker though and the Mikrotik might have suited me, especially with the level of control.

If you can add a RB-2011UIAS2IN Mikrotik to my account and add a R100/pm to my Fusion account, I would be thankful.

Quickly tried the Ireland Unotelly server with Vevo via the web page on my pc and the Apple TV, and got buffering once or twice in the beginning as well. Beginning to wonder if this is not a East Cape problem?

Easiest test. Check Vevo on a browser - if it works, then you know it's not your ISP. If it doesn't then we need to investigate, although the custom DNS makes it a tough one to look into, but we will.

If there is a difference in performance, then you know it has something to do with the way Apple is routing the data, as they like to route it over their network first when using an Apple TV so that they can pretty much monitor what you're doing on their devices.

Why do you think using a different dns server will give a different result?

They actually do...the CDNs seems to use the DNS to determine which server to use. I think...bit fuzzy on the technical side here tbh.

Hmm. Cdns could use different dns zones dependant on the query origin, I guess.
Would be interesting to actually compare where your Netflix streaming connects to using different unotelly dns servers.
 
Depends on the quality of the DNS server - that's why I tried a Unotelly trial account as well to see if the problem was not with the Dns service I have been using (Smart Dns Proxy).

Also willing to try anything at this stage to get it working. My streaming here is East London seems to be dismal. I have to lower the quality to SD on the Apple -TV and XMBC for Apple Movie trailers, otherwise I have buffering (on a 10meg line).

Is not only Crystalweb, was having the same issue with Telkom.

The DNS only redirects the authentication etc portion of the session through their proxy. The streaming goes direct to the CDNs

There have been issues in EC which CW is hoping to sort out. No time frame give - Shaun/Paul can chip in here.

@Wayne, where you stay in EL. I am in Berea also on a 10mb line and streaming has been dismal to the point of my vrou saying that "this streaming isn't working so well)
However, the last two nights I have had a great experience. Streaming via Mashup (SD content) without issues. Also NZB's were coming in at almost line speed during daytime.

Dunno. As I said - I believe it to be real - though I have not dedicated any significant investigation/mindpower/research to this. Make of that what you will.

No, use unotelly vs say IS DNS for comparison. TI does funny things with their transparent proxy so give that one a miss.
 
Well with is dns you won't even get to the cdn...
